Onward to more #CityEngine training for a client in #manchester! Long time since I've had to do this 😀
my helper tool is coming along nicely. Basically custom #python scripts under a nice GUI for common tools and settings I need in my project work with #ArcGIS #CityEngine
Used #chatGPT again today to help me further consolidate a collection of #cityengine #python scripts I made (wrapped in a GUI). Providing I am specific in my questions I find this a much better approach than searching stack overflow and the like still. I get it's not great at all things but this is exactly the tool I needed.
A recent thing I've been working on in #CityEngine is consolidating the more generic #python tools I have into a user friendly set of scripts with an nicer interface. I am only occasionally good at python coding so producing something like this that actually works I am pretty proud of! #GIS #geodesign #geography #urban #architecture
#CityEngine #python #gis #geodesign #geography #urban #architecture
What I still find interesting about working with #CityEngine is just how many non-urban & #geographical related professions/academics are interested in using it... example: a relatively local university I am going to training at: is it their Architecture or urban schools? Nope. Environmental Sciences....
First the functionality and workflows, then I will try and make all of this look nice. Custom #CityEngine GU tools for my projects coming along really nicely (i.e. they work not that they look pretty!) #GIS #Geodesign
Hurrrah! one company has booked 4 2-day #ArcGIS #CityEngine training sessions. Not the biggest booking I've had but definitely up there. #GIS #Planning #UrbanDesign
#arcgis #CityEngine #gis #planning #urbandesign
Currently headscratching my new #cityengine project's streetscape UVs. Not my strong point UVs and 'scope' always! However a top tip in #cityengine is to figure out those initial building blocks and foundations of code. Because it's much harder to change things 1000lines on of code 😂
Here's an image from my 'Howgill City' demo #CityEngine project. Lots of rules for small and large geometries here. Most needed updating to the latest version. And a lot of them I would have coded differently now! #3D #GIS #Geodesign #Esri #visualisation (yes I do spaceships)
#CityEngine #3d #gis #geodesign #esri #visualisation
Some people see the procedural modelling tool #CityEngine (and other tools like it) as a shortcut for design. Somehow magically, with a bit of code their designs will be realised with ease. I don't see it like that, I see procedural modelling as a tool that still requires input from a user. Once users and (and often my trainees) realise that, only then does it become useful.
Belated post from me on the new #cityengine 2022.1 release https://www.geoplanit.co.uk/?p=6001
#CityEngine and #Twinmotion side project... (Very much wip but help me keep up to date with new features in software!)
