#Siberia swelters in record-breaking temperatures amid its ‘worst heat wave in history’

These remote regions tend to see large monthly and yearly temperature fluctuations, but the last few decades have seen a strong warming trend.

"Despite only being early June, records are tumbling across parts of Siberia as extreme heat pushes into unusually high latitudes.

"Last Saturday, temperatures reached 37.9 degrees Celsius (100.2 Fahrenheit) in Jalturovosk, its hottest day in history, according to the #climatologist Maximiliano Herrera, who tracks #ExtremeTemperatures across the globe.

"A slew of temperature records have fallen in Siberia since then.

"Several all-time heat records were broken on Wednesday, including in Baevo, which reached 39.6 degrees Celsius (103.3 Fahrenheit), and Barnaul, which hit 38.5 degrees Celsius (101.3 Fahrenheit)."

@vwbusguy While installing weather stations on Baffin Island for a #climatologist I heard the story of researchers who got very sick eating the liver of a Bearded Seal despite warnings from local Inuit. Apparently Vitamin A accumulates in this species' liver and is toxic in high doses.

This evening the #DanskMeteorologiskSelskab (#DanishMeteorologicalSociety) is holding a symposium to recognise the contribution of our long-time editor and #DMIdk #climatologist John Cappelen.

Coincidentally, the society's winter issue arrived today too and there's not much doubt about how our #Winter is changing in Denmark

Trying to figure out how to build lists and my home feed. Are #Mastodon servers case sensitive for hashtag searches? Can i search for part of a hashtag (like #climate =#climatecrisis and #Climatologist ?) do i have to follow someone to add them to a list? Are lists only visible to me?
