Cold water swimming is imminent, transcendent, and ecstatic. It's transcendent, because it connects you to the power of the ocean. It's ecstatic, because it makes you feel so happy just to be alive. It's imminent, because the cold water focuses your attention; you just have no mental space for trivialities.
By "cold", I mean 48 degrees F to about 68 F. Your mileage may vary.
