I'm only a fan of a few specific science fiction, and sometimes science fantasy webcomics,
I don't want Twitter or Facebook hawking webcomic at me I'll never even read.
But so much web comic promotion is in this toxic loop where creator must rely on big data silos
For example I'd love something like a #comicfury or #drunkduck that's built on ActivityPub.
As it stands I have to pre-generate jekyll pages, and then host them.

I'll add to that that there's another form of media that is still heavily employs #RSS, and those that follow me won't be surprised by my mention of this: #webcomics.
A lot of self-hosted webcomic sites build on #WordPress, so RSS availability isn't a big surprise, but I appreciate that (or rather, when) dedicated hosting solutions also offer the feature. (#ComicFury does it, and even #WebToons, while AFAICS #Tapas does _not_.)

(And getting back to the “who should tell them?”, I know I could just write them to their contact email or reach out to them on Twitter (NO WAY AHAHAHA), but I think it would be better for these proposal to come from the webcomic authors/artists, and I'm not sure how many of them we have here on the #Fediverse. I think @ZachWeinersmith is with #HiveWorks, and @Dadaph also publishes on #ComicFury?)
#ComicFury #hiveworks #fediverse
Of course, #ComicFury joining the #Fediverse has a “size issue” similar to that of #Tumblr: it would appear as a single instance with millions of accounts if done the naive way. OTOH, again like Tumblr, this could be done via subdomains, thus exposing one “instance” per webcomic, although I still think that a “general” CF instance would make sense, for example to follow artists across multiple works.
Now, as a reader I like #ComicFury: it provides an in-platform “follow” system that keeps you informed of comic updates, and it has a marker mechanism to keep track of (and jump to) the “latest read” comic,
but it also provides #RSS feeds, so you can just follow your comics the classic way and without registering to the site.
I also think that it would be wonderful if ComicFury implemented #ActivityPub support.
So, between FB/IG on one side and sites like WebToons or Tapas on the other, the main point of the thread was that there is now a dearth of the experimental, free-for-all cultural environment in which webcomics developed.
I don't think this is true (and tried to mention, but wasn't given much attention): the “spiritual” (and in many ways actual) successor to #SmackJeeves is #ComicFury, where you can still find anything from poorly-drawn sketches to well-drawn (or rendered) compelling stories.
