@glightly Great question! This is one of my go to I'm-bored-with-small-talk-at-a-party-I-don't-really-want-to-be-but-there's-one-person-willing-to-have-a-deeper-conversation questions.
For me, a whole bunch of things. I grew up in a mildly conservative family that encouraged formal education and personal reading, so I did a lot of both. And now there are probably fewer major issues that I haven't changed my mind on than those where I've retained the assumptions I had as an 18 year old.
Examples:
- from mild climate denial to PhD in climate ethics and being arrested in multiple direct action blockades of coal mines
- from "abortion is murder" and "women are equal but different" to smash the (cishetero)partiarchy
- from hating cats to #AllCatsAreBeautiful (though keep actual felines inside; they are, as a rule, mass-murderers when allowed to roam freely, with a particular penchant for killing native creatures)
- from "my family is the most ordinary and boring family in the world" to "surprise, we're basically all ND!"
- from "meritocracy, #democracy and #capitalism are basically synonymous" to #CompostTheRich.

Fuller reality on paid family leave in the USA, everywhere it exists so does at will employment, so for the vast majority of those with paying jobs, unless you've the money for an attorney & get your employer stating directly that they're firing you for or taking said legally required leave, they can do so & most will, without any negative consequences to them & similarly the ability to get a medically assisted abortion in states where it's legal is pretty solidly attached to your ability to afford the out of pocket costs of it.
.....when "rights" are dependent upon your economic class, they're not really "rights" but privileges. #CompostTheRich
There have been without real question over 20,000 poor people who've died due to their impoverishment just in the days of this story all over the mainstream media, but none of them have been celebrated in their lives nor had their families comforted nor defended.
These rich people who died on a tourist venture had many better choices that'd have avoided their deaths, but poor who've died& are harmed via impoverishment don't have many if any better choices often. Economically poor people get blamed for said deaths & injuries, with often other people trying to or successfully helping them getting punished via things like jail, yet now rich people want simpathy/empathy, as people coming to their aid generally get medals & other awards &no blame do they want nor will they even close to accept for these very optional bad choices????
"personal responsibility" is something I'm fine with, when it really is a personal & not dictated by the systems of governance in a society & that's why I see blame as earned for the rich who end themselves but not poor, who've no clear & real better options. So until deprevation level poverty is eliminated globally & all deaths of people via their errors in judgment are not treated in time &care by bank balance, just

I think it's important to remember that 70% of all human generated greenhouse gases are from the US Military, all militaries globally are about 90%. Beyond that it's an income/net worth curve upwards - richest people multiplicatively generating more than even other but less so economically rich people.
The UN among other entities has pretty detailed studies on this.
So just don't join the military, don't be or get very economically rich & then understand everything else you do or not - however detailed in it's graphing - won't matter to this larger issue.
Este es un tema por el que me preguntan mucho.

¿Cuáles son las mejores formas de reducir nuestra huella de carbono?
La mejor forma es: #EatTheRich (o #CompostTheRich), pero mientras eso se consigue y no, hay otras cosillas.

@KilgoreTrout Here's my take. Credentials: experienced software developer/web developer, not a fan of any millionaires (#CompostTheRich), not now and never have been a Twit.
Musk decided to be hands-on, and made the #1 Pointy-Haired Boss mistake: he assumed that anything he didn't understand was probably simple. So he made a bunch of dumb mistakes: got Twitter's developers off-side by insulting them, then told them they had to change their (moderately) successful procedures -- put an end to working from home, set impossible deadlines, made changes by fiat instead of after consulting and testing, set stupidly long hours -- and then told them they could take a fairly generous severance package instead of putting up with it. Over 75% of staff took the offer.
There are no longer enough developers and system administrators to maintain the system.
Twitter is going down like a duck's underpants, and it is a direct result of Musk's mistakes. You don't often see this sort of thing played out at high speed, so for those of us not relying on Twitter for (for example) our green cards or health insurance, it's very entertaining.
