Ever since that first Blu-ray drive caused my PC to power off when connected, I've been having random power drops while gaming. The new drive did the same thing, but still worked on non-direct USB ports. So I guess it's time for some troubleshooting and replacing parts. :/
Beyond disconnecting some internal USB extensions, I suspect I'll have to start with the power supply, and follow that with the motherboard.

It's 2023 and one of the biggest problems in multi-site cooperation on a project is still "How do we share big corpus data (and derived info) without going mad?" 🤪
Yes I'm talking about 200GB of (gzipped) tw**s. #collaboration #nlproc #linguistics #computerProblems

Wow, what a rollercoaster it has been.
I bought a Hyper 212 EVO V2 to replace my ailing CPU cooler when I figured out what was causing the weird slowdowns: throttling down when the CPU hit 80°C because the fan was dead.
Removing the old cooler was challenging - the system builder had things tight. After I installed the new, I tried to start my machine.
No dice.
I took things off, I reseated them, I pulled off extra cables, wouldn't POST.
