For the path I'm on, it'll be exactly 20 years from the first year I took college courses while still in high school to graduating with a B.S. in !

Whoa. It came up in conversation yesterday how much experience I have being a ...

Counting by calendar years where I was enrolled at least half time (most of it was full-time) for half the year (most of it was the full academic year including summers)... I have *eleven* (11) *years* of college experience... and no degree yet!

But, if everything that's still up in the air lands right, I will have my for transfer in at the conclusion of this semester! (And, I think worst case scenario would be having it at the end of this summer semester.)

That's not even including the non-college I have taken, like the writing class I took through the art museum in the last city I lived in, the course, guitar lessons through the library...

Can be a in and of itself?

First week of the Spring 2023 semester is nearly done.

It's the last semester I need for my Associate's for Transfer in (unless I end up having to take one more gen ed over the summer because of a long story, but that wouldn't be too bad). I am *very* excited at the prospect of having a degree after 3 years of full-time (including summers) classes that have mostly been math, science, and gen ed courses.

Due to an unusual situation I have been trying to solve creatively while also putting off until the last minute, I am currently fully enrolled in two different community colleges while I sort out my financial aid, but hopefully very soon I can drop the one college.

I am tired, but I am hopeful that this will be a successful semester where I will also some cool stuff.

I am so grateful I got to mostly just chill for the 6-week winter break -- I am feeling recovered from and ready to (carefully) tackle this last traditional semester of college!

Hope you all are doing well too πŸ’›.

This is a bit of a post (sorry for the length)

I'm a multiply-disabled parent of children who are multiply disabled, and, I been trying to create resources for their interests and passions on a low income (SSI and my partner's PT job).

At least one of the kids is super excited to apply themselves in coding and software. They're 14, and I don't know if they know what people in the industry are going through with exploitation and awful working conditions-- I broached the topic once but I sensed some tension/irritation so I pulled back. I want to encourage them to follow their heart, but I'm also afraid for them and the future (especially since the future didn't turn out well for me).

Does anyone have advice for how to really discuss this topic with the teen without discouraging them? I really want them to do what they want to do, I just think they should know EVERYTHING there is to know about this profession, so they can prepare and get the best outcomes.

Anything is appreciated.
Thank you in advance.

@Cynni
Hi Cynni. Yes many of my credits will transfer, but the physics and the calc II I'm taking this semester -- which I am repeating after failing them both this past spring due to -- don't transfer as anything meaningful for my degree at the online university. They are required courses for my Associates for Transfer (AS-T), which would get me extremely discounted tuition rates at the university (almost 50% less, the remainder of which can be covered by federal and state grants). I don't think I'm worse off for knowing some calc II concepts and learning some physics stuff, but all together I've spent 8 incredibly intense months stressing and structuring my entire life around keeping it together to pass these needed classes and now it's completely academically useless.

Thanks for your kind words πŸ’›

Just found out my community college is dropping their at the end of the semester :(

I have to take a fully in-person
for my Associate's for Transfer in the spring, my last semester at CC before I can transfer to a fully online . Because the university I am transferring to has special pricing for students with an AS-T, I can't afford to transfer before all the requirements are met.

I really, *really* don't want to spend 9 hours a week for 16 weeks in a room with 40 other people who will most likely be unmasked, but it's the only way I can move forward toward my degree.

Fack!

Hi! Homg, that job sounds amazing!

I am in school now working on a associate's degree for transfer with the intention of becoming a . I am passionate about and I thrive in a fully remote, asynchronous learning environment. I had been really concerned about what to do after I get my associate's at the end of the coming spring semester because the local colleges have very few online offerings, but I finally found a fully online asynch bachelor's degree program that qualifies for federal *and* state funding and I'm so relieved! So thank you for helping to make those options viable!

I would love to work for a company that offers online learning opportunities some day!

I also lived vegan for ~7 years (would like to get back to it someday but I have to prioritize getting enough to eat, which is tough given other aspects of my situation), am , was an avid and reader growing up, and though I am way out of practice now, have had wonderful experiences with (especially ) and even thought of training to be an instructor for a while.

Yay having stuff in common! I'm happy to be connected to you here <3.

@thequirkybraincoach

Okay, I'm back!

So I'm an millennial and I have had *many* years of experience of being at least a part-time college student, both before high school graduation, right after, and many years after, including the last 2.5 years where I returned full-time the first fall semester of the pandemic *when all classes were remote* to start a new degree in .

I have ~3.7 GPA, but if I'd had to do fully in-person (and possibly even all online but synchronous), there's a high likelihood I would have dropped out again. I've had to do my Mechanics (Physics) class in person and I failed it the first take (TERRIBLE prof) & would fail this time too (despite a 95% exam avg) except prof's allowing me to get experimental data from classmates & do my labs at home bc I can't handle a 3-hr lab *immediately* after 2-hr lecture when it's loud etc, and he lets me wear headphones playing white noise during tests.

Remote, asynchronous learning is for me! Recorded lectures I can play back at a speed of my choice (usually 2x then pause to take notes), at the time of my choice (like when my brain is braining, not when it's wet-blob-of-cotton-candy-ing), in the setting of my choice (quiet, not too bright, body double, etc), which I can rewatch as many times as needed... it's a whole new world.

As an and enthusiast, I have a lot of opinions about how classes are run. My best learning experience of all so far, I think, was a gen ed class on Personal Finance. I love a spreadsheet and a budget and was mostly taking the class to knock out a requirement, but the professor had it set up *beautifully*. He had everything very well organized and available from day one, had text *and* video sources for most topics, very clear instructions for assignments, and communicated quickly and clearly when needed. It was a delight!

So tldr: my best learning experiences are fully online, asynch classes with thoughtful and kind profs.

Oh hello!

My name is Melvin (they/them), , & I'm happy to be in a space populated by other neurodivergent folks 😺 .

I've had a muuuch higher success rate in harmonious relationships with other ND folks (& queer folks, which is the uniting factor of the other server I'm on).

I doubted the validity of my "membership" to both these groups for a long time (imposter syndrome, anyone?), but having that self-knowledge in the last few years has really helped me get my life set up in a somewhat manageable way -- e.g. finding covid-cautious, very quiet & non-judgmental folks to live with (they're both queer and ! It's *not* perfect but it's SAFE) and making a new irl friendship back in February with yet another queer, AuDHD person, which has been so great; we met on OkCupid where I occasionally have a profile for the sole purpose of finding new friends (I hate dating and consider myself , but I DO really wanna find meaningful friendships that might still be around 10 years from now 🀞) since it offers a heavy filtration system and the opportunity to discuss covid precautions BEFORE being physically near one another.

Some of my, hmm, most influential?... special interests in my life, whether active now or just formative, include:
- (majored in it back in college 2.0)
-
-
- making , playing & , or writing poetry for stimming & emotional processing
- connection / growing to feel my body & emotions / achieving an unsupported
-
- / living life by a
- (current major, 1 semester left for associate's then on to online university for that BS!)

A new 1 I hope lasts:
