Called the Switchback Railway, it was based on an #industrial system that operated by #gravity. It cost a nickel to ride, covered 1200 feet round trip (it was linear), and had a top speed of 6 mph/9.7 kph. Well, I know my grandfather (far right) and his friends weren't listening to the #Ramones ("Oh Oh I Love Her So") when they visited #ConeyIsland in 1912. But they might have ridden a coaster called the Giant Racer, which opened the year before.
Still, I'm curious to know more about the contraption they're riding in this photo.
