@PeteLittle1970 I've historically been over-careful with food to avoid that. I've probably done plenty of dumping food that still might have been OK because I couldn't smell it to be sure. #CongenitalAnosmia plus #blindness plus #SensoryProcessingDisorder make for a bad mix in the kitchen.

@PeteLittle1970 Yeah nobody thinks about lack of a sense of smell as a potential problem. It's one of those hidden disabilities (I personally do see #CongenitalAnosmia as a bit of one) that no one sees unless you tell them.

@PeteLittle1970 replying outside of the group because tangent, but same here. I have #CongenitalAnosmia from #OpticNerveHypoplasia. I'm in a similar place as you with the smell-to-taste analogy--it breaks down when you get outside the realm of food. I couldn't begin to describe that wet dirt smell, or, for example, campfire smoke, or "new car." They're all just air passing through my nasal passages, nothing more.

Petrichor ! A word I am aware of intellectually but sadly will never experience nor truly ever understand completely. The whole concept of smell is totally alien to me. I lack any frame of reference to build off.

I equate smells to tastes but the idea of tasting wet dirt doesn't appeal so here my analogy breaks down somewhat !! :D
