I'm sorry, I've been posting a fair amount of US politics stuff without CWs. I'll resume CWing those things.

Can we remind those new to Mastodon, to use content wrappers on political toots. Everyone seems to have forgotten! Respect the other communities on here, who joined Mastodon to get away from the doom scrolling. #Mastodon #DoomScrolling #ContentWrappers
#mastodon #doomscrolling #ContentWrappers
@sortius I'd add:
* use #contentWrappers/#contentWarnings liberally
* remember to include #hashTags
@alanschenkel
Alan there has been a lot of debate about #contentwrappers aka #contentwarnings but I don't think there is any lack of consensus that a flashing strobe should be behind a conent warning. You're on med-mastonon so I think you will figure out why.
You can however "edit" and not delete the toot.
Thank you .
#ContentWrappers #contentwarnings
@firefoxx66 I'm thinking the last 4 are equally applicable here but the first needs reconsideration.
Possibly if replace it with:
1, use #contentWarnings (aka #contentWrappers) and #hastags generously.

I know there's no set policy on #ContentWrappers so the following isn't me worried about violating a policy. It's me wondering what is the most effective way to use this feature.
Like, I want to talk about something and I'm wondering whether to put a CW tag on it. NOT to placate people who might be offended by talk about racism etc, but because I know that people who are directly affected sometimes just want some time to look at kittens and unwind and not be confronted with this all the time.
Actually I started making these in March 2020 using furnace filters but sure it is nice to get the good ones that are back ordered.
Point of process: BTW large graphics are nicer when under a #CW which we call #contentwrappers not #contentwarning - they don't clog the timeline like those big #JPEG and #PNG
files.

@PleaseCaption Thank you! I've been trying to figure out how to add #ContentWrappers and #alttext for #accessibility. I appreciate the assistance! 😎👍

@kcarruthers That said, K Carruthers provides an elegant timeline showing how #contentwrappers can be used as headlines. Personally, I wish more people would use them especially when posting large images.
There is a check box in control panel that afaik will reduce their size but I won't do that because then I have no way of knowing which pictures I can boost without jamming up the timeline of my followers.
@BenWest editing posts, including adding #ContentWrappers, seems to be a minor mystery
Some day, I'll have understood how to do it.
Bruh - what country is this even for? Yeah obviously UK but how arrogant to presume everyone will know.
After taking a lot of heat for pushing back on the attempt to push ubiquitous and uneccessary #contentwrappers or #contentwarngs on all content deemed "political", I have to point out that I am opposed to that when it surpresses matters of international signficance such as racist incidents.
At the least state the jurisdictio at the top if you won't #CW
#ContentWrappers #contentwarngs #cw
Other threads and DMs resulted in a provisional microconsensus that my intitial remarks are better stated more narrowly.
To wit:
#CW aka #contentwrappers #contentwarnings may cause harm if (1) they do not have sufficient information in the header or
(2) they are accompanied by misuse of the #sensitivecontent button.
Thanks to @fable_cash @joolschadwick and @jesuisatirebitpickup

"Sensitive Contnet" is designated to protect people who have been traumatized from revisiting the pain. U will NOT give examples.
Problem: some people use the #contentwarning to set up a joke.
It is definitely #NOTFUNNY
Please resist the temptation to ovreuse and misuse #contentwrappers

@fs I feel there’s nothing inherently wrong with crossposting, but I would be cautious about what and how much. It would be better to post here and cross post to Twitter, rather than the other way round. The advantage of doing this is that you can hide stuff behind #ContentWrappers which you can’t do crossposting from Twitter. Not everyone wants to be bombarded by #Politics and some people haven’t grasped how far their posts can spread in the #Fediverse.
#ContentWrappers #politics #fediverse
@lindsey I’m of the loosely-held opinion that the underlying phenomenon making #ContentWrappers polemical is the distinction between *perceived #fragility vs actual fragility* resulting from #trauma or #disability.
We’re always gonna be dealing with the psychoses of other users. Being #conscious of that is a #cognitive load when dialoguing about anything.
Being a good #human matters.

Actually I don't believe you can blanket apply CW at all. You can blanket open CW as I have it set. You can blanket minimise media but that is not the same at all as #ContentWrappers with headline to describe your post.
I'm going to describe images with alt-text. I'm going to try and use CW & unlisting better too because it's just nicer for wherever my posts go.
Fighting everyone, over everything, even allies, that's something to maybe leave behind on Twitter.
@sandearl @edendestroyer @Gargron I think it’s important, when coming over from Twitter, that we don’t bring our bad behaviours with us. One of the reasons this is so chilled is down to the use of #ContentWrappers. They’re not exclusively for offensive material, more of a thoughtful guide for people who maybe don’t want politics splashed all over their home. We should be less bull in a china shop, and tread more softly.
@justinwilkins well said. I have also seen these described as #ContentWrappers not necessarily #ContentWarnings, simply a way to quickly categorize content when scrolling. They do not limit anyone’s freedom of expression, far from it.
#ContentWrappers #contentwarnings
@mikegalsworthy So far the three top tips I’ve learned are as follows:
1. Use #ContentWrappers, aka #ContentWarnings. Not just because of possible sensitive or offensive material, but folk here like to choose what they do & don’t want to see. Think of them as email subjects.
2. Use hashtags. A lot. It’s how people connect here. Also, help #VisuallyImpaired users by using CamelCase so screen readers know when they start & end. CamelCase is how I’ve hashtagged in this reply.
