So far, so interesting, though making me very aware that it's been decades since I learned a new language _family_ and I'm oooold.

It is already evident that the Greek fragments from #Oxyrhynchus are very inaccurate copies, but this pertains to the #provenance of all of the so-called gospel of Thomas - and that is Coptic, and #Egypt

Turns out that Shenoute's White Monastery Codex B (8-9th CE) also contains ⲥⲉⲓⲗ

And guess what? The Fayyum is a perfect match for the Nautic terms in Thomas (and the NT LOL) as well

#introduction I am madly in love with the so-called gospel of Thomas, which certainly isn't a gospel at all.
As a spin-off I also conduct research into early Christianity and Chrestianity, and read the (most) original MSS in Coptic, Greek and Latin
