Walking conditions today were changeable, from having to remove a layer of clothing because it was so mild, to donning full waterproofs as the rain swept in. I’m muddy, tired, and very happy.

Beautiful temperature inversion over the Coquet valley this morning, with Simonside rising clear of the mist behind. This is the first proper cold and frosty morning we’ve had this autumn, which is ridiculous.

Autumn colours are the best colours. I love the rich tones of the bracken at this time of year, and the low sunlight creates beautiful deep shadows. It makes me want to run into my workshop and grab a sheet of copper!
