Die neue Folge ist da: Coretta Scott King marschierte mit ihrem Ehemann Martin Luther King jr. für #Bürgerrechte und half mit ihren "Freedom Concerts" die Bürgerrechtsbewegung zu finanzieren. Nach dem Mord an #MartinLutherKing weitete sie ihr Engagement noch aus: #CorettaScottKing kämpfte für Arme, für Schwule und Lesben und gegen die Apartheid.

Thoughtful opinion piece by Karen Attiah in WSJ, about Boston's new Martin Luther King Jr and Coretta Scott King sculpture "The Embrace"

It confirms my own reaction to the sculpture (from my perspective as an artist & ally) which was: couldn't our city support the creation of a great statue of the whole man, and the whole woman, instead of reduce them to floating arms and hands connected by weird shapes?

"As you commemorate #MLKDay, please remember my mother, as well. She was the architect of the King Legacy and founder of The King Center, which she founded less than three months after daddy was assassinated. Without #CorettaScottKing, there would be no #MLKDay."

So waaaaaaaaaaaaaaiiiiiiiiiitttttttttt, a Black sculptor creates a giant interactive statue that honors not just #MLK, but also #CorettaScottKing and *also* intends it to honor a message and other local #CivilRights leaders and it gets panned by *checks notes* a conservative columnist from the local conservative paper, the conservative wing of the King family and Bird App people? Ok.

My take? I love #TheEmbrace and its symbolism.
