To call someone a "thought leader” is so thoroughly weird. In it, I hear that those being “led” don't have any worthy thoughts of their own. Or the “leader" is doing Jedi mind tricks on anyone in earshot. Or it's a cult.

"The hideous nature of these words — their facility to warp and impede communication — is also their purpose."

Molly Young in The Vulture on "Garbage Language: Why do corporations speak the way they do?", from 2020.

One of the best articles on this I've read.

Years of being surrounded by business speak have made me want to speak in a natural way, wherever I am.

You could say I am "my authentic self" 😉

is annoying enough to native American English speakers, but it just becomes a sad spectacle to see non-native English speakers struggle to adapt to this.

Like, what the heck is "touching base" if you don't know anything about baseball or even of its existence?

A: I was touch-basing with him yesterday
B: Were you two rubbing your butts together?

(I wrote "touching base" grammatically wrong here just to make my point.)

If someone at a company says something like "welcome to the $company family", I want to ask them,

When your family was struggling with financial difficulties, did you lay off your children because they were not adding value to the bottom line?
