@GamerMomLuna I am facilitating a one-shot of the GM-less RPG "Mobile Frame Zero: Firebrands" with Magpie Games Community Play Day tomorrow.
And I'll be playing in a continuing campaign of "Star Trek: Warp Cortex" on Sunday. That game is Modiphius "Star Trek Adventures" RPG with the game engine ported over from the 2d20 System to Cortex Prime.

24) Complex/Simple #TTRPG
Simple: Lasers & Feelings.
John Harper's free, one-page Star Trek pastiche is an extremely fun little game that always turns out a fun and ofen surprisingly profound story.
Complex: Cortex Prime.
The book presents a toolkit to assemble an RPG out of common parts, and the "assemble, roll, and choose" dice pool mechanic is fiddly and unlike any other. But once you get past the learning curve, it all makes perfect sense!

16) #TTRPG I wish I owned
Given the fortuitous financial situation I find myself in currently, I can pretty much buy any game that's in-print if it strikes my fancy.
I'd love to get my hands on a print copy of the Leverage RPG (2010) by Margaret Weis Productions [Cortex Plus]. But it's long out-of-print, the license is up in the air, and copies go for over $300 on the aftermarket. That is far more than I'm willing to pay!

@factolvictor My Sunday "Star Trek: Cortex Prime" game is cancelled this week.
Monday, I'm facilitating session 2 of a 3-part series of the GM-less story-game "Fall of Magic"
Wednesday, I'm GMing "Monster of the Week"
And Thursday, I'm playing in an "Ultraviolet Grasslands" game using "Black Sword Hack."
And somewhere in there, I need to finish writing a Trophy Gold incursion: the deadline is Friday.

Just Played:
Today, I joined an in-progress Star Trek TNG-era #TTRPG campaign. My caracter is Lt Cmdr Alexandra Chao, the new securirty chief of the Sovereign-class USS Endurance, under command of Capt. Doolittle.
The game started out using #Modiphius' #2d20 system, but the players & GM thought that ruleset was too heavy, so they switched over to #CortexRPG, and converted the characters.
Most of the session was bringing me up to speed with story & game system. Looking forward to next game!

A lot of narrative RPGs have trouble doing tactical crunch/positioning, but since Cortex RPG is built to be modded with modular rules, it can *kill* that kind of gameplay for groups who want it.
If your more tactical players zone out during action scenes, zone them back in with 𝙄𝙣𝙩𝙤 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙕𝙤𝙣𝙚 by @rivetgeek

Working on two different Cortex Prime games. One is just a return to a previous superhero campaign, but the second is a weird west campaign that is going to require quite a bit of new rules brewing.
Going to rip some character creation aspects from pbta style games, since that is the main aspect of that engine I actually like. #ttrpg #CortexRPG

My true #ttrpg setting love is urban horror/fantasy (whether players play supernatural or hunters), but I am seriously considering my next campaign to be set in t universe of schlock 80's fantasy movies (Ator the Fighting Eagle, Deathstalker 1-4, The Barbarians, etc). The context wouldn't be a fantasy world, players would be the characters in a movie. (Bonus points for playing actors playing characters.) Debating between #CortexRPG or trying #13thage
@jerpirate The Discord community for fari.app is really great, plus they are maintaining a list of open source RPGs. The #CortexRPG community is also fantastic and extremely helpful.
On the second day of Nerdmas, my true love gave to me…
2d20 with Momentum, and
A night where my entire group is free.
If you haven’t treated yourself to the recent iterations of the 2d20 system, you’re missing out.
Nathan Dowdell and the team at #Modiphius have taken Jay Little’s #2d20 system from a #GenesysRPG adjacent crunchy game to a narrative game that’s replaced #CortexRPG in my heart, and then back again. It does medium crunchy, high narrative action adventure like no other.

@queerwizard It is hard to pick between the versatility of #CortexRPG and the pure wild world of #Lancer/Icon. I love wargaming style rpg fights and Lancer lets you focus on the battle without feeling like a bad guy that is neglecting the narrative elements by divorcing the two
There is always chronicles of darkness, my favorite narrative focused engine.
Since the holiday season means I can't play in my #ttrpg session today, I guess I'll introduce it.
A friend is running a Pokemon game using the #cortexrpg system. It is a favorite of ours and you are going to hear me bring it up often. But I won't rant about the system today. We are using Cortex to handle non-combat elements, and then using Pokemon Showdown to settle matters of combat, which is rather complex but fun.
@johnwsheldon I'd use a #CortexRPG for sure, like Tales of Xadia, Leverage, or Marvel Heroic Roleplaying. The simple mechanic-- roll dice and keep the best two-- was something my son was able to pick up at age 5. And since it is narrative-based, I don't have to say things like "There's no rule for that." The online character creation tools for Tales of Xadia would be a huge bonus too.
Very happy with the state of my #coreTEK "Mech Powers" #perchance generator, now that I've added limits and—through the power of imports—technobabble module names. Do they match the associated #CortexRPG powers? Do they make any sense whatsoever? Perhaps not! But they _imply_ sense-making, and that's the spark that lights the fire of imagination. We are just _inching_ towards #TTRPG verisimilitude, here.

My name's Jeremy Forbing (he/him) and I'm an L.A.-based #neurodivergent writer mostly focused on #freelance #TTRPG stuff.
Most of my recent work has been for #dnd5e (WotC paid me to write Ravenloft stuff this year, fulfilleing a lifelong dream!) but I am actively working to put out more stuff for other games, especially #CortexRPG
I promise to post way less of my #leftist political ramblings here than I did on the bird-site. (But if you're in the US, please PLEASE vote today!)

Last Tuesday we took an hour discovering just the first of seven stages for three intrepid (and dramatically entangled) Mech pilots. This involved NPCs charted, as well as resources that will come into play during Story Mode (the actual Battle Mode TEK system traits we'll stat out last; they're manufactured separately from the characters, of course).
Thoroughly enjoying my ongoing fixation with #coreTEK on #CortexRPG!
Just LOOK at all these life-stages a Mech pilot's gotta get through before the real battle begins. 🤖🚀💥 #coreTEK #CortexRPG
Dang, I’m probably never going to flavor all 2,161 power/SFX/Limit combinations in time for Tuesday’s
#CortexRPG coreTEK session. 🤓
Every TEK has 2-4 such Powers, according to the character sheet, plus 1-3 on each of two potential submodules? I guess submodules are just ways to compartmentalize SFX and limits. So this is an ungainly example... but it's very exciting to me!
