My kid just scored this Vivienne Westwood Anglomania asymmetrical raw-hemmed half-placket high-low (like a c1810 cutaway) cotton lawn blouse at a vintage shop for an unreal price (yay!) We’ve handwashed it in Soak, another lovely use for clotheslines. Based on label fabric and style’s similarity in deconstructive mode to a cape-backed high-low-sleeve black stretch wool sweater I used to own, I think it’s from the 00s. Anyone recognize? #fashion #fashionhistory #costumehistory #VivienneWestwood

In between working on a graphic novel, I’ve been working on a series of historical costume guides for artists. I spent a couple of years at costume college, and there’s a lot of knowledge from that experience that I feel I can share. So these plates are for artists to use as reference, as much as they like. I have an early Medieval one up for a few bucks on ko-fi, and this current one on the gothic period is almost done.

And another video - not a new one, but a really fascinating one. I cannot overstate how much I love Sally Pointer's videos.

A gown I made a few years back, based on an 1878 fashion plate. 105 yards of silk gauze in ruffles and pleats, with 45 yards in the pleats alone.

Very excited that Kate Strasdin's book, The Dress Diary: Secrets from a Victorian Woman's Wardrobe, is being released in the States next June.

One thing I’ve always enjoyed about being an online denizen for so many years, is to see how much artists’ work grows over time. I thought it would be fun to share my ancient history here, chronologically, to see if anyone finds it encouraging or interesting. Here’s part 1 of The Old Art Project because I am bad at naming things. Something from 2002, when I was 21, and something from 2021. I’ll let you do the math. 🐞🪲

I’m learning! So here’s a new post to introduce myself. I’m an #artist specializing in #comics and #illustration mostly for young adults and middle readers. I also am a #CostumeHistory nerd, and I like to make #ResourcesForArtists like these in my free time. If you share these interests, I’m always receptive to friendly feedback. I’d like these to be accurate as possible. I’m a dabbler, not a specialist, but I try to do my best!
