I've never been to England, or anywhere else in the UK. Pre-internet, pre-tv docos, long ago during my childhood, my impressions of English & were influenced by lots of the children's novels i voraciously consumed, amongst which most strongly were the classic twenty-one book series.

Now, these hundreds of years later, i routinely read things like this, theguardian.com/commentisfree/, shake my head despairingly, & wonder just what Julian, Dick, George & Anne would have made of it all... not to mention Timothy, dashing hither & thither across the moors in search of rabbits.

I also included some touristic routes, like here. There's a road for cars here as well as the cycle-path, but while the cycle-path is nice and smooth the "road" consists of mud and potholes. This is a deliberate technique to traffic calm the countryside. There are lots of examples of this locally and I mentioned the idea on my blog many years ago:

We are rural rad folx developing a farm and land based community. Not sure how to most effectively translate our efforts here into something contributing to larger collective efforts to build another more awesome world, or at least help heal some of the damage being created by the current one. Not mutually exclusive I’m sure. But we have a few ideas and are open to suggestions. We will be sharing our story here as it develops and are excited to hear positive feedback as well as constructive criticisms.
