You know, I want to be wrong about #COVID. I want to learn that my degree of caution is unnecessary. I would love to stop alienating the people I love because their "careful" and my "careful" aren't the same.

It's just that the stakes are so high. The misinformation is so high. The good information that we do have indicates that to be truly confident, you need layers of protection (eg vax + mask + ventilation + distance + testing). My comfort zone is for a lot of those layers, more than most people feel is necessary.

I'd love to be proven wrong.

Following (US) Thanksgiving, our local wastewater numbers spiked significantly (and even prior to the holiday, our pediatric ICUs were still solidly in the "no vacancy" territory).

Then for a few days, they leveled to a high plateau.

Now they're spiking again.

#Healthcare frustration:

My child needs to see a particular provider (don't recommend I find someone else; that isn't feasible). I requested a telehealth appointment and was refused. So I messaged and said that we have high-risk family members and a young one at risk for RSV, and could the provider please wear an N95 mask and disinfect any surfaces my child would be touching.

She called to grill me about my "unusual worry." She basically forced me to share personal medical information, and then finally conceded that I had legitimate concerns.

I told her that it should be legitimate for anyone to avoid a virus that causes widespread death and disability, especially when our pediatric ICUs are overflowing.

I just... sigh.

Today was hard. Facing down another holiday season, still sheltering, this time no hope left for the-miracle-around-the-bend. The 3s were in full meltdown glory all day. Things have been different & they struggle with that, of course. We made a split turkey breast & sides from Costco in the air fryer, in shifts. Ate off paper plates on the floor. The kitchen is covered with a sheet. Mold. And 4 cold months between gutting & rebuilding. Tomorrow, maybe a walk. #NEISvoid #CovidIsAirborne
