For the record, this is NOT the apps themselves; but the weird cloud storage system they added to obscure the whole subscription licensing thing. Which as far as I'm aware, nobody ever actually uses?
Still, it's incredibly scummy to see this happening and has shades of DeviantArt's missteps into the AI art realm.

I've been upgrading my subscription around this time for years - partly with a new alias to confirm my affiliation with the university. This year I didn't have to, I could just cancel my old subscription and upgrade to a new one using the same email address.
