Fascinating publication in @QSS_ISSI:

The authors compared the number of citations received by articles according to #Scopus and #Crossref. For English outputs, Scopus presented a minor advantage (+6%) over Crossref more #citations. Crossref retrieved more citations than Scopus for documents in 🇩🇪 (+14%) and 🇫🇷 (+2%), whereas Scopus retrieved more citations for the remaining languages.

@pcastromartin @ztirfhtor It's great to see an overview of the pioneering work by #EUPublications on #Crossref grant DOIs. It would be interesting to dig into the PIC and ROR matching - it will likely be better now - there have been improvements #ROR @amandafrench

Here is some of the metadata and relationships that Crossref members should be including in their metadata https://community.crossref.org/t/isr-part-four-working-together-as-a-community-to-preserve-the-integrity-of-the-scholarly-record-crossref/3537 #crossref23 #crossref

An issue for tools that flag retracted articles in, for example, citation management software, is that databases see very different numbers of retractions. CrossRef sees ~11,000, Retraction Watch ~35,000. This motivates @NISOInfo's working group.

#Crossref limitations arise when analysing the amount of metadata deposited by #publishers. Just two thirds of the journals deposit abstracts and #ORCIDs and around a third deposit affiliations. The level of #metadata completion for individual articles is lower, with major differences depending on the language of the document. Just half of the #journals actually deposit references.

The Crossref sponsors program is crucial to the globalization of our membership - there are over 100 sponsors from 45 countries representing over 11,000 members. A new blog by @CollinsSu has updates - https://www.crossref.org/blog/refocusing-our-sponsors-program-a-call-for-new-sponsors-in-specific-countries/ #crossref

@hare . #OpenAlex is a superset of both #Crossref and #pubmed. However, I am not sure #Pubmed is really a subset of #Crossref. There are still many journals whose content is indexed in pubmed but whose publishers are not (yet) members of Crossred (i.e. have no Crossref doi). But this is changing
@smart314 @crossref Is there any plan to add #mastodon support to the #crossref #eventdata?

@smart314 Thank you for helping make #crossref go. We (Skeptical Science) publish a weekly compendium of academic research focused on anthropogenic climate change, employing #unpaywall plus crossref to automate construction of article listings, including callouts for #openaccess papers. This weekly item would be impossible in its present form without the crossref API. A sample of the fruit of your work is here: https://skepticalscience.com/new_research_2022_44.html

This week, notably, #Crossref counted its *1 millionth* #preprint in the ecosystem, all DOI'd up and with #metadata and probably relationships to and between numerous other research objects. It was pleasing to be able to throw that number out in conversation this morning with the International Science Council 🎉
