The only RPG I've run that has legitimately scared my players was *Bluebeard's Bride*. It's one fantastic game, but it deals specifically with sensitive subjects.

@LeviKornelsen I’ve spent a lot of time with D&D: Holmes box, AD&D, and then skipped to 5e. Lately I’ve been into #CallofCthulhu, #Vaesen #MÖRKBORG, #CthulhuDark, etc. Often GM but also love playing.

I love #horror ttrpgs. What‘s your favorite #horror game, apart from the biggest (tentacled) fish in the pond (#CallOfCthulhu)?
My choice:
- #TrophyDark for #FolkHorror ish stuff
- #MothershipRPG for blue collar #SciFi horror
- #CthulhuDark bc the way it handles horror as a metaphor for power(lessness) so good and demonstrates that cosmic horror does not need long skill lists
- #FearItself for investigative procedures
- #osr games: low lvl dungeoncrawls = survival horror

Excellent session of role playing

Four plucky explorers go to space and find doom...much shenanigans later ...cue curtain drawn across scene, as the last two survivors accept their fate....

@Tim_Eagon @recluse i also found Cordova‘s Mystery System very innovative. It provides a fresh take on integrating investigative procedures in #ttrpgs. Something I learned from games such as #CthulhuDark, #Dread and #Trophy and Brindlewood is, that Horror-themed ttrpgs don‘t need long skill lists. They are on the contrary, a fossilized element of what people thought of as a thing that must be included in ttrpgs. 2/2

@janedoesstories @AetherEgo @Steam_Tinkerer @dLG_eV ich stimme Dir zu. Lovecrafts Ansichten waren auch nach damaligen Maßstäben scheußlich af. Etliche seiner Geschichten strotzen vor Rassismus. Dennoch halte ich sein Werk für absolut grundlegend, was das Horrorgenre angeht. Man kann Lovecraftsche Tropes nutzen, die Ästhetik mögen. Die Crux liegt vmtl. darin, den Typen NICHT abzufeiern/zu verniedlichen. G. Walmsley (2017, S. 25) bringt es m.E. in #CthulhuDark gut auf den Punkt.

@AetherEgo I am into all kinds of horror stuff if it comes to #ttrpgs and movies 🙃 I’m particularly fond of survival horror with/without zombies (#TheDeadAreComing), Alien-esque blue collar sci-fi horror a la #MothershipRPG and #FolkHorror (big Fan of #TrophyDark and #TrophyGoldRPG ). Currently, I‘m reading #LiminalHorror (non lovecraftian cosmic horror, based on #cairn), like to give it try! Horror ttrpgs i like: #FearItself, #CthulhuDark.

@weirdadmiral danke! Da höre ich mal rein. Ich spiel immer mal wieder gerne Cthulhueskes (#CthulhuDark und #TrailOfCthulhu). schon interessant, dass Lovecraft/Cosmic-Horror Tropes im #ttrpg (und Boardgame-) Bereich so dominant sind. Vermutlich, weil Mythos-Referenzen in der Popkultur so omnipräsent sind

@stjepanlukac Alien cinematic mode supports a 2-3 one shot. #5e and CoC are - from my experience - not suited very well for short sessions. Maybe, if you work with pregenerated characters? but still … all those rules 😑. How about an #osr game for the „dragongame experience? Just roll a character in minutes and go. Or a rules-lite Cthulhu game? #CthulhuDark is great for one shots, i think

@bin_nebenan @weirdadmiral ich bin aktuell ganz großer Fan von #CthulhuDark. Das Spiel kommt mit einem total kleinen Regelkern aus und die großartigen Szenarien aus dem Regelwerk geben einem auf wenigen Seiten alles in die Hand, was man für einmal Cosmic Horror (mit Zwiebeln und Tzatziki, extra scharf bitte) braucht. Psst..nicht weitersagen, ich soll von Shub-Niggurath persönlich ausrichten, dass „man keine ellenlangen Fertigkeitenlisten für Cosmic Horror braucht“. 🤫 🐙

Yesterday at #3W6Con, I ran #IlPrezzoDellaConoscenza by @danieledirubbo an Luigi Briganti once again, a scenario for #CthulhuDark by @grahamw.

And I must say, once again, it just delivered. The players were inspired to create interesting characters in the service of the bishop of Lucca. Great pacing, lots of easy to manage sinister atmosphere and a lovely dark finale.
