Continuing a rant about the Villas at Disneyland Hotel.

It seems the room tax is based on the value of the room, but this, I think, is wrong. Imagine a hotel said their rack rate is $500, but they actually charge $150. Would the tax be $75 or $22.50?

Points are currently selling for $230 and are good for 50 years or $4.60/year/point. Dues average $7.25 at my resorts. That suggests $106.65/night, not $164.02. The tax is overstated by 54%.

But $106.65 is high too.

So, if you don't want to go through the thread below, this is a 15% tax from Anaheim which suggests that Disney values points at $18.22 each for tax purposes which is funny because they value each point at $9.80 when transferring to use at the hotel itself.

Also, if you take points purchased at current cost divided by years remaining and add maintenance fees, it comes to $11.77.

I think #DVC would prefer nobody notices how much it is.

Concerning the Villas at #Disneyland Hotel, the new #Disney #DVC resort opening in September.

I'm staying at the Grand Californian for 4 nights in October at 204 points. I calculate, based on dues and current point prices, that's worth $600 per night for a 2BR. Nice!

If I stayed at the new place, it's 240 points or $705 per night. But then you pay a tax in cash of $160 per night on top of that. How is it worth 44% more than the Grand Californian?

#LastWeekTonight covered the horrors of timeshares tonight. They were spot on.

And now to negate that statement. I bought a timeshare 23 years ago, and I still love it. Mine is from #DisneyVacationClub (or #DVC for short). I have to plan in advance, but that comes naturally to me. And in all that time, I’ve never been in danger of having points go unused. Quite the contrary: I never seem to have enough points, and I have a LOT of points.

Had some ask if I'd join a #Discord server because of some of my old #modding stuff.

1) It was 10+ years ago that I did that stuff (#DawnOfWar is actually nearly 20 👴) - do I look like I'm that active any more?
2) WTF? Discord? REALLY? Has anyone EVER done anything useful on Discord?

I think I went on the #DVC Discord once and it was awful for anything other than real-time chat. It's IRC for the web, not a forum for constructive discussion!

So today I set up a proof of concept :python: :qgis: #qgis #conda environment. Next step, I want to see if I can make Processing play nicely with #dvc. Fingers crossed 🤞

@nurkiewicz @melix I'm still exploring #MLOps options but I quite like #DVC for tracking data processing and experiments
