We're in trouble.

I'm not talking about Alberta, which is my home.

I'm not talking about Canada, which is a country I'm VERY grateful to live in.

I'm not even talking about North America, home to Canada and the US (and Mexico, which extends to Central America)

We're not in trouble for "A" reason, we're in trouble for many reasons - but all of the reasons have one thing in common. The vast majority of people in this world are no longer informed. It's not that we pick and choose what we want to believe, although that's a part of it.

The problem is we're inundated with bad information that gives us alternative reasons for problems, alternatives that allow us to feel better about making choices that contribute to the problems. Instead of finding or working on solutions, we blame others, and downplay the danger

1. Covid-19. Covid is a dangerous virus that we're ignoring en mass. It's a vascular virus that infects your entire body, including lungs, heart, liver, kidneys, skin, brain, digestive tract, immune system. It does short term, long term, and permanent damage to your body.

2. Climate. Our global climate has changed. It's vastly different now than it was 20 years ago. It's changed ocean temperatures, changed the trajectory of jet streams, caused more instability, drought, more extreme storms, and it's been accelerating rapidly.

3. Hate. People are telling us to hate our neighbours for being something. The thing doesn't matter because it's bullshit. Blame the gays, blame trans, blame muslims, blame christians, blame blame blame. It's not about people, it's about hate. And it's working.

4. Media. We allow propaganda. We "both sides" issues even when the two sides are facts and lies. Media presents lies and equates them with truth. Media no longer tells us what's happening, it makes things happen.

People who warn get slandered.

People who care are attacked.

People who protect themselves are weak.

People who hate call it "freedom"

I'll say it again, we are in trouble, globally, and these are global issues. We need to fix this.

We had the power to prevent and correct all of this.

I had thought we were on the right path, but now we're devolving, regressing, panic is pushing people away from reality - but accepting reality, and working together, everyone, is the only path that leads anywhere worth going.

Whenever I see a message from an instance warning others about an instance they've blocked for janky shenanigans, I feel like a space traveler intercepting a transmission about a hostile and dangerous planet to avoid.

I dig it.

I made this graphic for Twitter, to go along with the YouTube video I made about the CPC/Reform party in Canada. Alt text is incomplete, so here's the text for anyone who's visually impaired:

You may not have seen this logo in a long time, or even at all. It belonged to the Reform Party of Canada.

Reform came into existence in October of 1987, with the leader, Preston Manning. It lasted until October of 2000, when Stockwell Day was named leader of the party, under the name Canadian Alliance. Stockwell was only leader for a few short months before he was replaced by a man by the name of Stephen Harper.

Harper lead the Canadian Alliance through 2003, when he made a deal with Peter MacKay of the Progressive Conservative Party of Canada (PC Party) to “merge” A few stray PC Members did join, but they were of little impact, and never amounted to any influence in the newly renamed Reform Party, which took the “Conservative” moniker from the PC name, tossed the "Progressive" portion, as it did not describe the “new” party.

The new party, the Conservative Party of Canada, was nothing but a new name for Reform, its 3rd name, and from 2003 they have maintained the moniker.

Reform, now called the CPC, is a social conservative, hard right faith based party, with no fiscal sense or experience. They believe Canada should be a Christian nation, with a similar structure to the United States, with profit driven Health Care, Education, and that all of the social services should be privately run and funded. They don’t care about you.

They’ve managed to take over the remaining provincial parties bearing the Conservative name, be it PC, UCP, Saskatchewan Party, BC Liberal Party - they control 8 of 10 provincial governments, enough to remove our guaranteed health care from the Canadian Charter, and our Constitution. Reform is alive and well, lead today by a man named Pierre Poilievre, who’s been involved in Reform since he was a teenager, through all of their names - all with the same dangerous, anti democratic history
