Hello #DarkfriendSocial, I hope all is well. I just wanted to share a quick update. In order to provide a little more diversity to our Federated feed here on the server, I have joined a Mastodon relay. The relay we have joined to is here: https://relay.fedi.tools/app/

This means that our server and the other servers on that relay will share posts with one another across the board (honoring your posts' privacy settings of course). You'll see posts from those servers in Federated, Search, and Trends.

Inspired by @update I thought I would share some of the #DarkfriendSocial growth stats.

I am genuinely not sure how Mastodon measures "active users" or how that figure can be higher than the number of new users in a community's first month. Also, given that many of our users have just set up placeholder accounts in the event that Twitter ceases to exist, I'm actually a little surprised by the number of interactions.

Is this interesting to anybody? Should I share future graphs?

Just a heads up to #DarkfriendSocial community members: today's Twitter news is likely to spur another large exodus from Twitter and to other including Mastodon. Mastodon. This may once again mean some service slowdowns or intermittent errors. If so, I ask for your patience as the Mastodon network works to bring them on board.

I might just pin this message, and then readers can just assume it applies to the current date's bad bird news.

Thanks to the generosity of several members and to help with the influx of new users, I've had #DarkfriendSocial bumped up to the $19.99 tier. This is more in line with estimated usage of a server of our current size.

Quick PSA: #TootersOfTime unlike Twitter Mastodon is decentralized. This means that no one corporation floats the cost of the platform. For example, Darkfriend.social’s tab is being picked up by @hybridhavoc.

I know that he currently has a hosting provider running #DarkfriendSocial but as more and more #TwitterOfTime refugees come over the burden on the system will increase. More capacity and bandwidth costs more $$$.

Our host, Masto.host, will be upgrading us to the newest Mastodon version, v4.0.1. There is no indicator at this time of when this upgrade will apply for us, but thought I should notify everyone.

You should expect about 30 seconds of downtime during the upgrade.

I'm experimenting with using Announcements on the #DarkfriendSocial site to notify of upcoming live streams from our favorite Wheel of Time content creators. Since it seems like most users are accessing the site through a mobile app, I'm not sure that those announcements are even visible, or wanted. So first, I wanted to see if anybody has seen any of the posted announcements.

For example, I have two announcements posted now about live streams tonight (at time of posting)

Okay, as the community over here is growing let's go ahead and poll right now...

I've been considering if there may be a good way to try to speak directly to people on our local server and make it clear that is the intended purpose. Perhaps just tag it as #DarkfriendSocial.
