I have some unique limiting factors, I'm aware: I live in two different states (NorCal and S. Arizona) at different times of the year; my houses in both places are in small towns (though I'm in the Bay Area a lot); and, I travel a lot, but usually to remote places like a recent trip to the mountains of Sonora where I camped out with a bunch of biologists.

I never got the 50th birthday "Time To Get Stuffy" memo. I recently took up paragliding and restarted rock climbing after 30 years (can still do 5.10!) and I've got a score of intellectual interests. This should make meeting people easy, except that at most events, I'm often the oldest person in the room. My age peers are...where? Doing what?

I'm on Bumble at the moment, but about to delete it. Hinge, as well. I deleted Tinder months ago. OKCupid was super fun many years ago, but Match.com destroyed it.

I'm finding that I'm:
1) Finding very few people I can get excited about on dating apps;
2) Rarely match when I do;
3) Rarely meet if we match.

Mostly lots of ghosting and indifference or endless texting then ghosting or slowly fading away. Ugh!

And yet, I meet virtually no people who might be romantic possibilities in person, so online dating seems like...idk something at least?

Do people over 50 but under Social Security age use dating apps much and what is your experience? (Note that I don't like putting my exact age and especially not my birthday online, but I'm in that age group.)

Against my better judgment ("no don't, just delete this now")...

Does anyone want to talk about dating in middle age? At any age is okay, but I think there is a lot that is unique to this phase of our lives.

As you might guess, I wouldn't be asking if it were going great for me at the moment, so...

*deep sigh*

Let's start with "How do you meet people?"

I've been on and off dating apps between relationships for about 15 years. I used to think they would be awesome for someone like me who is in the "long tail" of potential romantic matches, a way to find that rare type of weird that I would connect with and with whom I shared some activities, intellectual interests and basic lifestyle practices.

It didn't really pan out so productively, though I met lots of interesting women (a few of whom are still friends years later).

I've always had good luck with dating apps which I've been using since my divorce in 1998.

Several LTRs, the longest lasting 15 yrs which recently ended because she had developed "other" priorities wc didn't leave much left for us as a couple. So, I ended it.

Didn't take long to find another match. It's still developing but it looks promising.

I'm 72 yrs old now. So, here's hoping that this one is the last one.

Gentlemen, if you really need to post a phallic compensation pic on your dating profile, try a classic race car, not a fish. 💋
