I really like #DayOne as a journaling app. But the fact that my very sensitive info is out there in a server thousands of miles away and subject to a company's policy makes me nervous.
That's why I prefer to journal in #Obsidian because it is local-first
"... local-first aims to bring all the advantages of the cloud—ubiquity, sync, and collaborative working, but without the cloud's problems."

I gave the Day One Journal, both on IOS and the web, a spin, but I'll keep looking for a journaling application. I liked the prompts and templates, but journaling, like social networking, is just something I'm not going to stick with unless there are basically no hurdles. I found Day One to be just a bit too clunky when using it with a screen reader.
There was a journal extension I loved in Emacs, but it wasn't cross platform. The Notes and Voice Dream Writer apps in IOS is also really nice to use, but it also isn't cross platform. right now I'm trying out Microsoft One Note again. #DayOne
A few years ago, I set up an @ifttt automation to suck all my tweets into #DayOne and a Google sheet (which are backed up locally to HTML and CSV, respectively)
Now that Space Karen has shut off access to all tweets unless you are logged in, I’m glad I have the archive if I need it.
Remember, your internet data is not yours. If you want to save something, make sure you can hold the bits in your hand, even as a backup. Despite all the memes to the contrary, the internet is not forever.
To those who use the Day One Journal App. You can now access Day One Journal through a web app on any Windows PC. From what I have tested so far, it is totally accessible with Jaws. Read more about it here... https://dayoneapp.com/guides/day-one-on-the-web/getting-started-on-the-web/#:~:text=With%20the%20Day%20One%20web,your%20PC%20or%20Windows%20desktop. #DayOne #Journal #iOS #Apple #Windows #PC #WebApp #Blind #Accessible

#DayOne syncing has been terrible for a while now. I hope Apple really puts effort in that new journal app.
Apple journaling app will be part of iOS 17; Day One being Sherlocked, says founder
It's not nice when Apple does this, although I expect a lot of iOS users will be pleased, especially as the full Day One app costs £9.99 ($12.44) a year. It's well worth the money, though Apple's new app will integrate deeply with iOS.
Day One is excellent and worth paying for, although I found Pages to be adequate.
@jeremie @demeter IMO, review is essential. Even relative big apps like #DayOne suck at localization. In their German localization they translated "save" as "sparen" (save money). 🤦🏻♂️ Localization requires more than just translation. Ideally a good localization does not only have a correct translation but one that is coherent with menus and dialogs used by most apps on the plattform. In a lot of cases I prefer English over a bad localization.
@markmcelroy @sigsegv I use a script to regularly import #DayOne notes into #Obsidian. DayOne does a lot of capturing for me (location,…). But for editing and revisiting and linking, I do that in Obsidian. For notes and #PKM I use #Logseq (after switching from #RoamResearch). Syncing is via Git.

For those who were interested in me trying to figure out an #Obsidian #journaling workflow, this is what I landed on.
I decided to start simple (no template) for now and see how my needs change over time, instead of overfitting my process.
So I've just got a blank daily note, and I check in with timestamps. In the sidebar, I've got the Calendar plugin and also a #DayOne inspired "on this day" that automatically populates links using the #Dataview plugin.

@campbell Yeah, I actually would love to settle on one tool, but I can't see it being Evernote.
At the moment Evernote has my personal "business"-ish information. More personal notes (like a diary) go into #DayOne , and more random personal notes into Mac Notes. To-do lists in Mac Reminders. Dunno, just a pattern I settled into, doesn't make any sense. 😂
And then work notes are in a folder of files, just text edited with Sublime Text.
I feel like I should be a little more #organized ...
I guess this is the reason I started to write most of what I would post on social media in my #DayOne journal instead. It’s not as sad as it may sound. It’s journaling.
Not expecting a response is freeing. Plus it is cool to look back and be reminded of things you have written before thanks to the „On this day“ feature Day One has.
@markmcelroy @andricheli @nickfoster The power of #DayOne really clicked for me when I was backfilling a log of the hikes I’d been on the past few weeks. Having the photos just already be right there and all but selected when I had made a backdated entry was amazing. And then the location info was automatically updated based on the photos. The final thing that did it for me was the most recent hike had step count included! I assume fram activities. Capturing all that data is just amazing.
For years I used #Drafts, #AppleNotes, and #DayOne concurrently, each for their intended purpose.
I would really love to roll all of those into #Obsidian, but I can’t quite figure out how to do it 🤔

Just got #dayone at 40% off if you haven't already give this a look! https://dayoneapp.com Really a great place for digital journaling.
