#SUCHO day 60: Yesterday was #DayofDH2022, and a year ago, that emergency response DH would become a major part of what I do in this field. But the Slavic linguistics "laugh line" in my academic background (when I worked in HPC) is now front & center in my work. 1/10
A couple hours of kid wrangling and #DayofDH2022 continues: wrapping up the slides for tomorrow.
I snuck a look at the handful of responses to the @DHWoGeM@twitter.com survey. They make things feel possible. Let's do this. Survey here: https://forms.gle/SstEYBKNxz11DxNY6
On the train home, I worked on slides for tomorrow's #DayofDH2022 bonus talk. Revisiting a @lisaspiro@twitter.com classic through a slightly different lens.
The #DayofDH2022 campus day ended w/ onboarding an RA to a data collection project. I got 0 things on my to-do list done while on campus.
As I walked to the shuttle, I watched the PBS NewsHour livestream of the piece on #SUCHO.

A surprise on my desk on #DayofDH2022 from @cecilealduy@twitter.com: a copy of her book on Zemmour's language. I'll never stop loving seeing projects I help with turn into real, timely things with impact. And DH Twitter deserves a lot of credit for making this happen, too!
Today's #DayofDH2022 outfit was in honor of YRDL: the Alice in Wonderland Mad Hatter's tea party and caterpillar hookah smoke. I have big sewing dreams for future YRDL outfits and fabric designs, but this will do for today.
#DayofDH2022 also turned out to be the best time for me and @roopikarisam@twitter.com to chat with @nolauren@twitter.com & @apjanco@twitter.com for the first time since the election. I'm so happy to see the @achdotorg@twitter.com co-leadership arrangement continue. I would be completely in over my head without my co-VP. 🥰
Speaking of Dr. Bones & fallout from the pandemic, did you know that @ADHOrg@twitter.com approved the @DHWoGeM@twitter.com SIG? For ages I've felt too overwhelmed to do anything with that, but #DayofDH2022 seemed like the right time to change that. Fill out our survey? https://forms.gle/otYi6Guzj1rzPDiAA
I really believe in #DHmakes as a thing worth cultivating, and the plan was to invest in reviving the #TextileMakerspace this spring. That fell apart with the war, but I'm hopeful it's less of a lost cause than Dr. Cheese Bones attempting to knit. #DayofDH2022

Next up was a meeting with a student who had come across the #TextileMakerspace and was interested in helping staff it for more hours. 🥰 It's been so hard to keep to a regular on-campus schedule with the #SUCHO work so I'm really excited about getting some help. #DayofDH2022

In the middle of the YRDL presentation at the @literarylab@twitter.com, I got an email from a journalist who wanted to talk about #SUCHO. So it was a quick context change from YA and the American Girl book series to wartime web archiving as I ran between meetings. #DayofDH2022
YRDL falls mostly in the domain of a favorite hobby for me, but as someone who mostly works w/ non-English languages, I find it useful to experiment & try out methods on English first, since it offers a kind of "easy mode" for computational text analysis. #DayofDH2022
YRDL is kind of an awkward project for me, since it's an Anglophone corpus and that's one of the languages I don't really do at work. It does keep with the #DayofDH2022 theme of #DiversityinDH from another angle: books for young readers are rare to find w/ computational analysis.
Once I got to campus, it was straight to the @literarylab@twitter.com to get ready for the talk introducing YRDL. #DayofDH2022 https://twitter.com/quinnanya/status/1519719575784280064
Usually I get some kind of reading or writing done (including emails) on the 2-hour-each-way commute, but today I was too busy reading everyone's #DayofDH2022 posts that it was mostly Twitter both ways. It was nice, though. Felt almost like a mini virtual ADHO conference.
It's been such a delight following along with the #DayofDH2022 hashtag today, but my own day got away from me as soon as I made it to campus. My job is unusual enough that I write quarterly wrap-ups to explain what I do, so I enjoy this annual chance to zoom in on just one day.
For some bonus #DayofDH2022 tomorrow, I'll be talking about taking fun seriously at @UNT_Libraries@twitter.com. It should be quite a journey ranging from the #DataSittersClub, #DHRPG, and fanfic, to Ukrainian web archiving, and... ducks 🦆🦆🦆. Zoom sign-up at https://bit.ly/UNTLib-DayofDH2022

The last part of my #dayofDH2022 is a virtual program on #NFTs "To Mint or not to Mint" offered by the #digitalhumanities Center at San Jose State Univ. And with that I sign out for the day...

#DayofDH2022 is a great day to officially launch a new project! Meet YRDL, the Young Readers Database of Literature, with rich metadata for over 25k Anglophone books for young readers. A collab with @Nichole_Nomura@twitter.com & others and part of @literarylab@twitter.com! http://yrdl.org/
Thought I'd turn to the @CoyoteAndBones@twitter.com Academic Tarot Deck for some inspiration while waiting for the next part of my 2-hour commute to campus. Instead, it went right for the heart of things I've been struggling with. #DayOfDH2022
