One of my favorite live visualisations, #DeepSpaceNetwork Now, is finally back online after completing a security review prior to the #Artemis launch.

It never fails to impress me with its simple(!) web design conveying so much information graphically. It's also nice to see the two #Voyager craft still humming away checking in with us.

This week, NASA will announce the astronauts that will form the crew of the #Artemis2 mission - returning humans into Lunar orbit, and preparing for the next Moon landing.

Australia's playing a central role to the program, with @canberradsn at the heart of it.

I got to tour the facility and chatting with CDSCC Outreach Manager, Glen Nagle about this big beautiful antennas, the history of the facility and the big missions coming up.

The biggest dish in the south! 📡

Continuing to process my images from @canberradsn visit a short while ago ... and came across this beauty of DSS 43.

It really shows the scale of the structure relative to the car, tree and buildings in the foreground.

DSS 43 has a diameter of 70m, which is bigger than Parkes (64m). This makes it the largest, steerable dish antenna in the southern hemisphere.

Unlike Parkes, DSS 43 both receives data AND transmits - so it is used in deep space missions, including humanity's longest distant calls - out to Voyager 2, which are now beyond the orbit of Pluto.

I love spending time with these gentle giants ....
