This #FossilFriday, meet #Teleoceras, the short-legged #rhino. It lived across #NorthAmerica from 16-5 million years ago and is especially common at our lab's field site in eastern #Oregon (though these fossils in the #RoyaOntarioMuseum and #DenverMuseumofNatureandScience are both from the #GreatPlains). Even though it may look like a #hippo, every line of evidence suggests that they lived on land. If you're wondering why its legs were so short, then, it's a great question - and an open one.

Hello Mastodon! Like so many of you, I'm new to the site and as a #paleontologist interested in mammal evolution, I figured what better way to introduce myself than sharing some of my favorite photos of the majestic American mastodon, Mammut americanum? Here it is, at London's #NaturalHistoryMuseum, Toronto's #RoyalOntarioMuseum, LA's #LaBreaTarPits, and the #DenverMuseumofNatureandScience!
