It's not a question of physical need. I'm perfectly capable of controlling my urination and defecation. And it's not a psychological need (at least not exactly). I've gone without diapers before and suffered no ill effects. All I know for sure is that I had regularly been wearing "24/7" on weekends and holidays for a while, and then one Monday came where I just didn't feel like going back to regular underwear, so I didn't.
