What if... What if we all just went back to Digg? https://digg.com

Not sure if the younglings today remember that #Reddit itself became what it is out of widespread user revolt in 2010 against the previous "front page of the internet", #Digg.
Then as now, the #enshittification cycle led Digg to redesign their popular site, giving outsize voice and influence to commercial interests over the users who built the experience. They bounced to Reddit, and here we are.
Or I should say... here we are AGAIN.

Looks like #reddit is determined to price out third party apps by charging insane, exorbitant prices for their API. They are trying to force everyone to their terrible official app in order to farm data from users. With this and the IPO rumors, it looks like Reddit is going to get a lot fucking shittier. I started using reddit as part of the #digg exodus way back when. I feel that worked because there was a viable alternative. We'd better get #Lemmy ready for primetime. https://www.reddit.com/r/apolloapp/comments/13ws4w3/had_a_call_with_reddit_to_discuss_pricing_bad/
Does anyone else remember the proto-Reddit, #Digg?
Man, that went down like a flaming zeppelin.
I just googled something and ended up on #digg - didn’t realize that was still a thing 🤔
Mastodon is so much more cozy than the #birdsite ever was. I hope us coming in from twitter don't mess up the vibe here. I think we'll be OK, though. This isn't the first time I've done something like this. I switched from #Digg to #Reddit when the great Digg Exodus happened, and although there were a few grumbles about missing the "old" reddit, I think we ended up not mucking up the place. You just have to respect the current culture here; this isn't #Twitter 2.
