It seems to me that very few people in and in general (with the exception of ) use preprint services. Why is it so? Does anyone here use preprints? And if so, what archives do you use? Boosters appreciated 🙏

I'm glad to see coverage of discourse analysis of US politics. It would be more interesting to examine the co-occurrence of keywords, but this is a start.

Who does research on how research is grossly, disingenuously & instrumentally misquoted out of historical and disciplinary context, leading to harmful uptake & , including:

- toxicity around Trump's 'alternative truths';
- populist trans-gender discourses;
- linguistic injustice.

Thinking of:

'One becomes, is not born, a woman' (de Beauvoir);
'academic language is nobody's mother tongue' (Bourdieu);
'truth is relative' (post-structuralism/critical theory).

There is something poetic about being in the final stages of editing my thesis on the micropolitics of CSA as the first box of the season arrives! Scapes, salad, and significance simultaneously!

It would be interesting to know who of you fellow friends of the federation (FFF) are at our Congress in on July 25–28. Perhaps it would be nice to meet up in a coffee break or something? The programme will be published soon.

I decided to email Ruth Wodak, one of the founders of . I told her my observations described above and to my surprise, she quickly emailed me back and told me she was willing to have a couple of video meetings in order to explain me how to do a proper . I was flabbergasted: Ruth had been retired for a while, but she was willing to help me out.

And so she did: we had a couple of video calls in which she meticulously explained to me on how to proceed

Almost none of the published articles that apply any method of actually explicate how their analysis was conducted.

Sure, the article states that, let’s say 131 texts were analysed and that the results are that 528 legitimations of category so-and-so were found, but nowhere any article stated how exactly that research was conducted.

How could I figure out how to do a if even the academic articles did not elaborate on this?

Great idea, I thought, until I realised that I had no experience in . My BA and MA were in and , not .

Understandably, a moment of panic ensued. How could I continue my research without following a full BA degree?

I started to read manuals and articles and I quickly found something that I still consider to be a major flaw in research.

For our next session of our reading group we will read Achille (2003) . In the essay, Mbembé engages with ’s concept of biopolitics to discuss sovereignty in the context of the instrumentalisation of human existence and the material destruction of human bodies and populations.
