It's only semi-social (closed/friends-only), could need an option for public access, and various tweaks here and there – but it’s very hackable (#Django, #Python, #svelte, #SQLite)

292 followers · 3281 posts · Server mstdn.socialI’ve played with #Wagtail off and on over the past four years with long gaps. It is the best #CMS based on #Django I’ve found, but some assembly required. There is an out of the box CMS based on Wagtail called CodeRedCMS.
I like WordPress. It’s got a huge ecosystem of developers, designers, and users. Many web hosts have turnkey WordPress setups, but I like Python better than PHP. I came from #Perl, so #PHP was attractive at first because it owes a lot to Perl.

After much searching I found #Wagtail which sits on top of #Django. There are a couple of packages that will import WordPress #XML exports.
My introduction to Python was through #Zope and later #Plone. Then I discovered #DjangoProject.
My biggest issue for is importing hierarchical Categories and Tags. That seems doable. I’ve work out a lot of details. Just need to do it.

138 followers · 1578 posts · Server mstdn.socialWhat I like most about the process of rewriting the backend from Python/Django to Rust (a language I had no previous experience with) is that at first you just hack together something that finally somehow works but you've no idea what you're doing, and later on reiterate over that code and clean it up and making it better with more experience and knowlegde gained in the process.
