Una de las consecuencias de la ruptura de la presa de Kajovka, en #Ucrania, es que hace que el #Dniéper deje de ser navegable.

Durante siglos, los rápidos del Dniéper fueron el principal impedimento a la ruta de comercio entre el norte de Europa y el imperio bizantino.

La construcción durante la época soviética de las presas en el río tenía, como objetivo complementario, hacer que todo el río fuera navegable y ofrecer un acceso directo de Moscú al mar Negro.
