Out of the three, unused Windows computers I recently got up and running, I finally got one to run #DockerDesktop! I'm so stoked! Tbh I should have tried the highest spec'd one first but I went with the cheapest netbook first and then the SFF second. 😅

This third desktop PC is a small tower - Win 10 Pro, Gigabyte Z68A-D3H-B3, i7-2600/3.40GHz/4 cores/x64, 16GB RAM, GTX1050 Ti, 120GB WD SSD. I used to play Steam games with it.

Finally I met the requirements to install #Docker!

I have issues with Docker Desktop using it with Home Assistant and Shairport-Sync, but not with Docker Engine.

I always thought these two products were the same. Just the Docker Desktop with better UI. However, they are not.

#dockerdesktop is such absolute shit. Every time I start it’s there’s a 50% chance it will just hang, saying it is “starting” forever. And it impossible to stop it from “starting”, and displaying a continuous animation in the menu bar, without restarting.

#Colima just released v0.5.0 with support for #VirtualizationFramework and #virtiofs on #macOS! This should not only improves performance but enables hot/live reloading¹, bringing it on par with #DockerDesktop as a development platform for me. Congrats to the team!

I just used #DockerDesktop on #macOS to compile a #static build of #MP4Box for #Synology #DSM 6.2! 🎉

So I’ve had to drop back to my only working computer, an 11yo #iMac with SSD and 32GB memory, but it can’t run anything higher than 10.13 High Sierra.
Which means I can’t run #DockerDesktop.
Are there alternatives to #Docker that I can use with docker images, or do I need to run #QEMU plus a lightweight #Linux and run docker in that?
This is a stopgap until I’m employed again and I can fork out for an M2 MacBook.

How do you manage your #Docker #containers ?
If something else, please mention it.

@janik6n yes, it seems handy for those used to #DockerDesktop. Also would be interesting to hear mac users experiences from #PodmanDesktop. I am so spoiled I get to run my #containers on #fedora laptop using #podman directly, no need for VM. I recall container storage sharing from host was complicated for mac users while this was new.

I'm not sure what I did among the reset, reinstall, reboot, deleting caches and other files, but after SOOooooo many attempts I finally got #DockerDesktop to run #kubernetes again.

Why it stopped working is a mystery. Why it started working is a mystery.

Really, at the end of the day, parts of "the cloud" are just magic.

I have Docker Desktop #dockerdesktop running on a #Ubuntu 22.04 install. The only service running on it right now is pihole. The Docker Desktop process crashes almost daily. There’s plenty of RAM, plenty of CPU, plenty of Disk.

I found some logs:
> /var/log/opt_docker-desktop_Docker Desktop.1000.crash

There’s a bunch of leading binary and then after there’s plaintext logs but nothing is jumping out as an obvious cause.
