The macro mode of the old Canon I got this year has allowed me to actually take photos of flying insects! Here's some long-legged flies, #Dolichopodidae.

Based on the description in the following paper (especially the male genitalia and wing pattern), these two long-legged #fly (#Dolichopodidae) individuals are Heteropsilopus ingenuus. Both from the #SLAM #Malaise trap in Aranda, ACT, 27 January to 3 February 2023

Tachytrechus consobrinus #Dolichopodidae with its remarkable, beak-like, projecting silver face. A Nationally Scarce species of acidic mire, this one from the New Forest, one of its strongholds.

Recycling recent Twitter posts, will make some original posts soon but for now here's a male Machaerium maritimae from Langstone Bridge, Hayling Island collected July 2022. An amazing iridescent green and silver, saltmarsh associated #Dolichopodidae with a characteristically elongated first flagellomere
