Lovely #Re 🇮🇹 station on the #Vigezzina line earlier today. A catering trolley ☕️ 🍻🍷will be loaded here onto the mid-day “diretto” from #Locarno🇨🇭 to #Domodossola 🇮🇹, composed of a pair of #SSIF ABe4/6 units.

“Meet” on the #Vigezzina 🇮🇹 narrow-gauge railway line earlier today: #SSIF units ABe8/8 “Ossola” (built 1959) and ABe6/6 “Piemonte” (from 1968) pass each other at Orcesco-Gagnone station, working the last #Locarno to #Domodossola through service of the day and a local to #Re respectively.

Several through trains between #Domodossola 🇮🇹 and #Locarno🇨🇭 on the 100 year old #Vigezzina #Centovalli narrow-gauge line are currently being worked by lovely #SSIF class ABe8/8 units from the late 1950s. This is due to equipment shortages: the “Panoramic“ units aren’t operating right now because of some technical issues.

In #Piemonte’s Valle Vigezzo for a few days (of hiking basically). Since there is also a railway line (🤓), a visit to S. Maria Maggiore train station is almost compulsory. This is the highest point on the narrow gauge #Vigezzina #Centovalli line from #Domodossola 🇮🇹 to #Locarno🇨🇭. And there is a nice station café right by the platform edge with photos of the early years of this railway line on display.

On the #SSIF 🇮🇹 Valle Vigezzo narrow gauge line earlier today, at (and around) S. Maria Maggiore (📷 1,2,3) and Masera (4). Pictured is the 08:48 morning service from #Locarno to #Domodossola, worked by the ABe8/8 unit #21 “Roma” (plus a plinthed tramcar).

The evening service on the #Locarno🇨🇭 to #Domodossola 🇮🇹 narrow gauge #Centovalli #Vigezzina line is usually worked by a lovely 1950s unit. Tonight #SSIF ABe8/8 #21 “Roma” is doing the honours. It comes with opening windows, obviously a mixed bag on a rainy day like today. 😉

Morning at S. Maria Maggiore 🇮🇹, the highest point on the #Vigezzina #Centovalli narrow gauge line. The first eastbound services of the day from #Domodossola - a local to #Re and the international to #Locarno🇨🇭- are worked by units built in the 1950s and the 1960s. ❤️

Evening on the #Centovalli 🇨🇭#Vigezzina 🇮🇹 line, west of #Locarno: the last through service of the day with destination #Domodossola is usually being worked by an #SSIF ABe8/8 unit, built in 1959. And: this train comes with opening windows!

From #Domodossola 🇮🇹, where the #Swiss #SBB🇨🇭 regional service terminates, southwards along #LagoMaggiore with the Borromean Islands. The train for #Milan also makes a brief stop at #Stresa.

Pictures taken at the #SSIF workshops in #Domodossola 🇮🇹 in January 2013: two #ValleVigezzo #Centovalli ABDe4/4 units, built in 1923 - 100 years ago. (Their car bodies had since been modernised though.) They had last been used for working museum specials (#17) or track maintenance.

Back from a day out in #Centovalli #Ticino - with some pictures of the lovely little trains seen on the #Locarno🇨🇭 to #Domodossola 🇮🇹 narrow-gauge railway line earlier today

The “trenino”, the little train from #Locarno🇨🇭 to #Domodossola 🇮🇹, still comes with plenty of units that have got opening windows. New trainsets have been ordered though: the days of travelling #FensterAuf might therefore be counted.

Earlier this afternoon: a really enjoyable train ride from #Locarno🇨🇭 to #Domodossola 🇮🇹 over the lovely #Centovalli #ValleVigezzo narrow gauge line in beautiful weather.
