. @murdock

I had read Trent's comments earlier, it takes a big man to recognize another artist's impact on his own composition. In fact, Johnny did hit it out of the park with his honest rendition and excellent video.

Johnny really does own this song, you can hear the cost and pain of each year of his long career. It's a remarkable song from a historic artist!

"Rock Me Baby" - BB King
With: Eric Clapton, Buddy Guy & Jimmie Vaughan

When BB and Clapton playing solos together it sounds like two guitars talking to each other one of the greatest jam sessions ever.

Buddy Guy just blows everyone out of the water with his solo here. It's such an aggressive, dirty and hard hitting solo.

Raw emotion. Love it!

The great Nina Simone (1933-2003) Live at Montreux, plays a medley of covers, flavored by her own personal experience and her total mastery of the piano.

The music is superb, sad, and deeply personal. It says so much about her, the loneliness of stardom, and those of the stars, her friends; Janis Ian. Janis Joplin and Billie Holliday.

"Sweet Home Alabama"

Was written in answer to two songs by Neil Young, "Southern Man" and "Alabama" (which was a rehash of "Southern Man"), because the songs "took the entire South to task for the bloody history of slavery and its aftermath".

"We thought Neil was shooting all the ducks in order to kill one or two," said Ronnie Van Zant at the time. (live with Kid Rock)

a sad day for rock-n-roll...

Now don't hang on
Nothin' last forever but the earth and sky
It slips away
And all your money won't another minute buy

The 2004 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame clip of Tom Petty, Jeff Lynne, Steve Winwood and Dhani Harrison performing the Beatles song "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" during George Harrison's induction ceremony.

Prince, off to the side during the verses, casually walks to center stage as the bridge approaches and proceeds to pour forth a guitar solo so achingly beautiful that it's become canon.

While My Guitar Gently Weeps was written by George Harrison, the Beatle's lead guitarist.

The song serves as a comment on the disharmony within the Beatles following their return from studying Transcendental Meditation in India in early 1968.

This lack of camaraderie was reflected in the band's initial apathy towards the composition. Harrison countered by inviting his friend Eric Clapton to overdub a lead guitar part.

I agree with those that preferred the CeeLo Green's (Gnarls Barkley) original version - it has a really unique, infectious "funky rap" presentation that is hard to beat. But the music also has a bit of a mechanical, quantized rhythm that bothered me.

Here's where it gets weird... There are no musicians credited with this cut because it was sequenced from the Spaghetti Western "Django" track "Last Men Standing:"

"In Hell I'll Be In Good Company" โ€” The Dead South

Boasting gritty vocals, aggressive guitar strumming, mandolin chops, banjo licks, and a steady kick drum to fuse it all together, The Dead South delivers a unique sound.

This is the story of a man who knows his wife is cheating on him. If he kills his beloved, will they both meet in Hell?

The lyrics are very visceral which matches the tone of the song:...

Joe Bonamassa

"Nobody loves me, but my mother, And she could be jivin' me too..."

For years, my wife thought I made up this song... until we saw BB King sing it in concert...

Of all the musicians Joe Bonamassa could add โ€“ more guitars, flutes, marimbas, even steel drums โ€“ why add backup vocalists?

โ€œBackup singers are an essential part of pop music, supplying songs with depth, contrast, and commentary...โ€
