Beijing is sweltering right now. The Dragon Boat Festival was last weekend. To me, this is the most interesting event in China. One of the origins, there are a few, has to do with a poet, Qu Yuan. His suicide by drowning brought out local boats to save him. After he couldn't be saved, sticky rice was dropped into the Miluo River to lure the fish away from eating his body. There's lots to learn about China. Ignore the CCP, study the history.
