I had the great cyclist experience earlier of some prick of a driver beeping at me on Westmoreland Street because I wouldn't evaporate into thin air and let him pull into my lane. This prevented him from taking up position behind the first car stopped at the red light. I resisted giving him the finger in case he killed me, but I felt like I had arrived as a cyclist. #DublinCycling

I’m 38 years old, learned to cycle 10 years ago when I had a cyclist partner but with the exception of a few rides in the wilderness, never got to do it in the city out of a huge fear of cars. Fast forward now when I heard about #CycleScheme from my employer and finally decided to go for it. Best decision ever, conquered my fears, got a new passion and I clock in a minimum of 20 Km each day just by commuting to work. Am grateful for programs like these! #DublinCycling

Unfortunately, due to freezing conditions & weather warnings from Met Éireann, we've taken the decision to cancel our Monthly Cycle tomorrow evening, 14 December.

We're very disappointed to cancel, and so sorry to let everyone down, but it is the safer option.

However, please do stay tuned for January's event!

(And, if possible, we'll see if we can organise something in-between. 🤞🏼)

@rothar excellent advice. Add to that reverse route planning. We often choose longer quieter routes to avoid heavy traffic. These are the type of conditions when it’s best to avoid the quieter city routes as they’ve likely not been gritted nor has traffic flow cleared the surface ice. Same goes for cycle tracks. Not desirable due to mostly not been gritted. #BikeTooter #DublinCycling #KeepUpright #StaySafe

@clickhere only did around 10km today by bike. Some parts were worse than others. The most treacherous was City Quay two way cycle track. For safety I dismounted as I got close to Matt Talbot Bridge. That said the roads were so much safer than cycle tracks and footpaths. T'was baltic cold to boot.

Absolute and total RESPECT to everyone who was cycling in the freezing conditions in Dublin today.

On my few short journeys by bus and on foot today, I saw at least a couple of dozen people cycling.

Nerves of steel and absolute legends.
