Here’s the problem. One of the #Duolingo native speaker’s dialect is hard for me to understand. I wish they’d flesh out the #ScottishGaelic and be a little more consistent with the voices. And I would really like it if they added #Gaelic #SpeechRecognition.

@brentsleeper Some of the game-like aspects of #Duolingo can be disabled within a free account, in particular the leaderboard and leagues. I did this and it helped me focus on learning instead of maximizing XP.

#duolingo has taught me lots of vocab and grammar in my 1100 day streak; I've run through the Welsh course several times. But since I gave up my subscription it keeps becoming unresponsive on me and I have to close the tab and lose my progress. Time to move on, but I'm grateful to the people who designed and maintained the course.

@jkdelauney If you want to replace your photo avatar and avoid the new #Duolingo avatar builder, you can log into the Duolingo.com website instead of the app.

Find your way into the settings section and you'll see a way to upload an image file for your avatar.

Finally, I have broken Duolingo's hold over me. I had a streak of 1002 days and I had been trying to get it to end so that I no longer had anything to maintain on it. The increasing desperation of its notifications to get me to go back, its attempt to hold onto my streak by using freezes I didn't have... It's all over.

I'm using Babbel and Memrise (new update) to keep learning Danish. Duolingo can do one.

This article confirms the creeping doubts I had using the #Duolingo #app this time around, and scrolling through the hashtag search results for my post above bolsters the other argument the article makes regarding the #gamification aspects of the app outweighing the #educational aspects.

I'm already a bad #Spanish speaker and the app doesn't help in understanding quirks of the #language to provide deeper understanding, just words and phrases of minimal usefulness.

I wish #Duolingo was a bit more flexible. It should be easier to skip forward when you already know nearly all the material being covered. It should be possible to opt out of being bugged about streaks.
