Durham's stunning Ushaw Historic House, Chapels and Gardens is well worth a visit at this time of the year, especially as the gardens burst into a riot of rhododendron blooms.
The former Catholic seminary is now a heritage and cultural tourist attraction, known for its Georgian and Victorian Gothic architecture and listed nineteenth-century chapels.

The Grade I listed Prebends Bridge, built at the request of the then Dean of Durham Cathedral for the private use of the Dean and Chapter to gain access across the River Wear to the cathedral via the Water Gate at the South Bailey.
It was designed by George Nicholson with building work completed in 1778.
It replaced an earlier wooden bridge that crossed the river just a few metres further upstream.

The old Fulling Mill, on the banks of the River Wear in Durham, forms part of the 'classic view' of Durham Cathedral.
Originally a water mill and house, it dates from the C17, but may have incorporated parts of an earlier building.
Sadly, it’s ten years this summer since the building, which had become the Durham Museum of Archaeology, had its contents moved to a new home at Palace Green. Such a shame that since then, it has stood empty.

A midweek walk along the Durham Heritage Coast this week, just south of Beacon Hill, near Easington.
It's a landscape that's been transformed from the days when so much of the coast was despoiled by the indiscriminate dumping of colliery spoil.
This time of the year is the best time to visit this magnesian limestone landscape and on a day like this, you're guaranteed a soundtrack of larks ascending.

Quel silence assourdissant sur le rapport #Durham qui démontre que la collusion #Trump-Russie était totalement bidon, et montée de toutes pièces par le FBI et les Démocrates américains !
Comme ils font silence, parlons-en ici ! Merci de relayer !

'Sunderland Bridge', Croxdale, just south of Durham in North East England and named after the nearby small hamlet of Sunderland Bridge, on what used to be the original Great North Road, the A1.
The bridge is thought to be 14th century and is a Grade I listed structure. The road neither carries the A1 designation, rather it is now the A167. The A1(M) runs to the west of its older counterpart.

Walking through the woods today on the banks of the River Wear in Croxdale, just south of Durham in North East England.
The bridge in the background carries the busy East Coast Mainline between London's Kings Cross and Edinburgh's Waverley railway stations.
Love how the fresh leaf canopy is so bright and vibrant when backlit in the strong Spring sunshine.

Hesleden Dene in Co Durham, North East England, is an absolute delight to visit at this time of the year in early Spring.
Before the leaf canopy fully opens, the dene is light and airy with the sunlight (when it shines) percolating down onto the woodland floor.
Along with nearby Hawthorn Dene, Hesleden Dene is managed by the Durham Wildlife Trust.

Finally, a day of more sunshine than cloud.
A cool breeze still coming in off the North Sea though and with an afternoon high tide, decided to head inland for warmer climes and a walk around Rainton Meadows, the HQ of the Durham Wildlife Trust at Houghton-le-Spring, Sunderland.
Full-on Spring birdsong across the site, including the wildfowl inhabiting the nature reserve's ponds.

Love this corner of Durham, Dun Cow Lane, connecting North Bailey with Palace Green.
It's part of Durham's UNESCO World Heritage Site and takes its name after a legendary Dun Cow that led the community of St Cuthbert to Durham in 995.
The narrow lane lies just off the the eastern end of Durham's cathedral and is often in it's shadow, especially during the Winter months.

The imposing Raby Castle, a bit of an eye-catcher to those travelling to Upper Teesdale in Co Durham, along the A688 near Staindrop.
The Grade I listed medieval building was built in the second half of the 14th century, with further alterations and additions down the years.
Around the castle there is 200 acres to explore with a range of wildlife, not to mention herds of red and fallow deer and Longhorn Cattle.

A host of golden daffodils at the ruins of the C13th Finchale Priory. The Grade I listed building is situated on the banks of the River Wear near Durham in North East England.
The Benedictine priory was founded in 1196 on the site of the hermitage inhabited by St Godric, a retired sailor and merchant, who settled at this sheltered location after a life of adventure and travel.

Sunday evening and the view south from Crimdon on the coast, Co Durham, in North East England.
The structure in the distance is the for industrial pier of the Steetley Magnesite Works and set to be demolished soon. Just beyond that, Hartlepool's historic Headland, then Tees Bay with the distant North York Moors.

Definitely coming into peak daffodil season across North East England just now and with sunshine featuring in the forecast in the coming days, hopefully they'll help brighten up the new season even further.
These glorious specimens are pictured blooming in Barnard Castle, Co Durham, you know, that place where you go if you want to test your eyes!
