Will universities consider COVID for performance evaluation & promotion? They better do, given all their talk abt

"Not Just for the Boys is an enjoyable and useful primer on the challenges faced by women in STEM. Donald, an experimental physicist at the University of Cambridge, UK, and a leading authority on gender-equity issues, draws evidence from history, neuroscience and social science to explain why gender bias is rife in STEM."

Over 50 publishing organisations have jointly committed to action on inclusion and diversity. This great initiative from the Royal Society of Chemistry now has a steering committee chaired by Nicola Nugent: rsc.org/policy-evidence-campai

It will hopefully complement and work alongside our Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion committee chaired by Ana Heredia, PhD ease.org.uk/communities/specia

I read many statements with all the right words but no attempts to repair uninclusive workplaces

Hereā€™s a welcome change: an essay with lots of practical recommendations

One of my favorites? Listening to employees, which isnā€™t nearly done enough.

Some learning points on implicit bias in medicine and/or genetics from todayā€™s lecture a mini šŸ§µ

1.Implicit bias is unconscious and not under your control

2.labeling someone a ā€˜problem patientā€™ often is rooted in implicit bias

This essay is a very well explained summary of research on and inequalities, including the role of men.

It concludes with recommendations for research, notably on how childcare is influenced by workplaces.

Striking for fair pay and pensions today, so not at a module choice event for students.

Real-terms pay has decreased by 25% since 2009 - already working one day free per week before the current bout of high inflation

Enforced and financially unjustified pension cuts of 35% - very much worse off in retirement

Cuts disproportionately affect early career staff and persons from diverse backgrounds ā‰  EDI

Staff working conditions are student learning conditions
