Now more than ever, water resources are in the spotlight because of geopolitics and #climate change. During this @EuroGeosciences #EGU23 press conference, we hear from researchers about a metalliferous Cretaceous formation that pollutes pristine #Arctic waters, the ingenious use of isotopic fingerprinting in Italy to unmask environmental polluters, and how the finance sector has a crucial role to play in addressing the global water crisis.

Here's a #Throwback at the #EGU23 Conference and some of the projects that we presented there. Thank you @EuroGeosciences!
Had the chance to talk about my research on #seaweed in #NuclearWinter at #egu23: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wtlxuXaMz7E Check it out if you are interested.
sorry for the not so great audio quality

By the way, I’ve just returned by train on Friday night from the annual European Geosciences Union conference #EGU23 in Vienna, with 13,000 participants. As always in the big climate science events, a large and exciting part of the presentations & discussions was on paleoclimate.
RT @ChrisPBrough: Heading over to #EGU23 to talk about the defective block scandal of Donegal - and why there are sadly long term implications.
To see the scale of testing so far, below is a heat map of tested properties (all risk), with the obvious concentration in Donegal. https://t.co/Hf2bYhmxap

Ocean remote sensing session done! #EGU23 @EuroGeosciences. Every year I'm so pleased to get to see all these talks and posters, thanks all who attended!
We had a solicited talk, Lee-Lueng Fu presented the first steps of the DWOT satellite. Really impressive images! Looking forward to the data release!
RT @richardabetts
Had a hugely informative week at the #EGU23 conference
The highlight for me was the incredibly powerful talk by @WimThiery on his award-winning paper comparing the lifetime exposure to weather extremes and impacts for today’s kids vs older generations. Hard-hitting science ⤵️ https://twitter.com/wimthiery/status/1442409556034740230
Today, Martí Perpinyà presented his research on quantification of #CarbonStocks at the individual #tree level from #EO #remotesensing at
the European Geosciences Union
Amazing work, Martí! 🧑💼🎓

It is stunning that the heat record in Cordoba was almost 5 degrees C above the previous April record. This is statistically implausible without changes in the dynamics of weather activity (which in science we distinguish from thermodynamics). 7/x

RT @mikarantane
Lots of presentations this week in #EGU23 about record-shattering heat extremes by @erichfischer and many others.
The new April heat record in Cordoba airport just demon…

We had great discussions around our poster in this session #EGU23: institutional support, NVDA to highlight unjust policy, and more.
To know more about Scientist Rebellion, meet us, and get involved: join our splinter meeting at 12:45 (45 min!), room2.61 https://meetingorganizer.copernicus.org/EGU23/session/47844
Xuewen Wan introduces a GRACE based weighted drought index. These drought indices can be used to study the severity and extent of droughts in the Yangtze River basin #EGU23
The necessary filtering which is needed for working with GRACE-like data unfortunately also causes signal attenuation, and different time frequencies are effected differently. Vasaw Tripathi proposes a frequency dependent restoring algorithm. Further work could also be in the direction of accounting for signal phase lags induced by filtering. #EGU23
#EGU23 has been pretty great, but a clear highlight has been catching up with my pal Jack. We meet annually in Austria, will the trend continue next year? #DogsOfMastodon
Assimilating GRACE data into the Watergap 2.2e hydrological model, which also takes into account anthropogenic water use, improves realism.
Regions with prominent trends in GRACE are now also visible in the assimilated version, while the model provides better spatial detail. Data is avialable on pangaea: https://doi.pangaea.de/10.1594/PANGAEA.954742
