I have relied on alerts from this account for years. This is a huge loss. Another way E*on has torpedoed the usefulness of this site for disaster-related work. #EMGTwitter https://twitter.com/NWS_NTWC/status/1647040102475128832
Really good piece.

Thereโs a lot wrong with what has happened in Ohio. For @msnbc, I wrote about one piece, how the poor communication โ from the very beginning โ has decimated trust among the public and paved the way for widespread national conspiracy theories. #EMGTwitter

I grew up about 30 miles from East Palestine, love trains, and am obviously an emergency manager. Hereโs a thread on what we know about the train derailment, the response, and things I am thinking about. #EastPalestine #EMGTwitter ๐งต (1/15)

It's hard to write an effective alert or warning when you haven't had the tools or the practice. This account posts recent Wireless Emergency Alerts and rates them using criteria drawn from social science research on what is most effective. Love this honest piece on preparing for emergencies in Seattle! Preparedness doesn't look the same for everyone - young people, singles, renters, and other folks without time, money, and space to prep are (sometimes) overlooked when developing realistic guidance. #EMGTwitter https://twitter.com/UrbanistOrg/status/1602725087022616585

Emergency Management folks, do we want our own instance/server on Mastodon? It would be limited to folks in public and private sector emergency management. The goal is to be able to exchange ideas, best practices, AARs, and information. #smem #EMGTwitter #emergencymanagment #emergencypreparedness #emergencyplanning

@sct_r Oh, hi! I believe I found you while poking around on the local timeline and was intrigued by what #EMGtwitter #SMEM was. I wholeheartedly agree that community in social media for real emergency news is important and understand that it will be hard for such a community to move away from Twitter -- however! I thought it was great that you were looking to pull together resources + ppl here on the Fediverse as well. I hope all the important sources we had on Twitter can somehow make it work
Spent the last couple of days updating my #TwitterMigration #MastodonNoob link list of articles, videos, resources etc... - added several more links to things that should be helpful or interesting to my #EMGtwitter #SMEM (Social Media in Emergency Management) friends and colleagues. https://docs.google.com/document/d/1dtdqk3l0jbh-pVY3rGJ1tBvTCxSGhg2D0kYUe_eymEQ/edit?usp=sharing

(2) Also regarding autoposting from birdsite: I'm hoping that government accounts will set up here even if they can't initially engage in discussions. As #Mastodon user numbers grow, having official accounts that can share info on subjects like public safety information or disaster recovery could be beneficial even if autoposted. There are many like myself coming here seeking community who have participated in various aspects of social media for emergencies; #SMEM, #EMGtwitter, #VOST and more.

York County PA Office of Emergency Management: Shen Kreiser is celebrating 12 years of service to York County today, all of it in the Office of Emergency Management. She has been instrumental in our nuclear planning program, as she is one of the most sought after experts in the state in the industry in the Commonwealth. #YCOEM #NPP #EMGtwitter
Thankful for my emergency management friends for building Mastadon accounts & making contingency plans. Anyone planning a Mastadon instance/server specifically for their agency yet? I've seen posts on news media orgs setting up instances to host their staff & official accounts; where will EM agencies & orgs go? Setting up your own instance seems wise if possible security concerns can be addressed. It certainly would eliminate "verification" issues... #EMGtwitter #EMGmastodon #smem #IAEM #NEMA

I'm wondering that most databases on #NaturalDisaster events are commercial, patchy, and/or just Excel files. Is there no (crowdsourced?) free and machine-readable alternative? Maybe @SamLMontano@twitter.com @DrAndreasS@twitter.com @hancloke@twitter.com @LatinaGeologist@twitter.com @davidlallemant@twitter.com know something?
