It's impossible to overstate how much the US media business, across pretty much every form of visual entertainment, has been dependent on the cable TV bundle over 30 years. But that gravy train is stopping, and streaming revenues are never going to be enough to pick up the slack.

Sports, the entertainment sector grown fattest from all that delicious cable $, is going to suffer in particular, since its scope was largely built on being subsidized by the majority of cable subscribers who, like taxpayers subsidizing stadiums, don't care about sports (or at least about every sport).

Anyway, the realistic trajectory is pointing towards massive retrenchment across the entire industry. No guarantee that team and platform owners and their investors are going to be "realistic," though.

Didn’t really need to do this but I’ve caught the streaming bug. #Verizon have a deal where you can drop $75 on a year’s sub to #STARZ (not particularly thrilling) BUT that gets you a year of premium #Netflix for free! Which is $240 value. So we did it and now we have Starz, Netflix, #AppleTV+, #Hulu, #Disney+, #ESPN+, #PrimeVideo, #Crunchyroll and #YoutubeTV. God.

Started watching #Outlander last night from the hotel room with the #FireStick latched onto the Wi-Fi. I could happily spend the rest of the year, maybe even the rest of my life, just watching show after movie after show. I don’t want to go back to work. 📺📺📺

Haven't watched #ESPN in years

Since getting unlimited internet I've now completely fallen down the rabbit hole with streaming stuff. Phone plan gives me #Disney+, #Hulu and #ESPN+. Amazon Prime gives me PrimeVideo. And we killed Cox and went for #YouTubeTV for live TV Channels. The FireStick 4K Max we have is easily as fast as the #Odroid N2 for video. Installed KoDI on it and now I can stream my music collection too. Got multiple TVs in the house with multiple fire sticks, a couple of which cost me just $16 each WITH REMOTE. I no longer need to switch TV inputs between the media center and the TiVo, the latter got retired as well. The whole shebang is centralized and now I have more entertainment than I could possibly watch in ten lifetimes. Quality is great too. Bought an OTG cable enabling me to store #FireTV apps on an external USB flash drive so no more 5Gb #Firestick limit.

Something I find fascinating about the finals.

Back when the Sacramento Kings were still playing, Zach Lowe of ESPN talked about how he felt kick balls done by Domantas Sabonis were not a valid basketball play.

Fast forward to the NBA finals and Nikola Jokic made 4 kick balls in game 4.

It's absolutely a valid basketball play.

Had a horrible night last night trying to stream the NBA finals game from the #ESPN app to my TV. It kept disconnecting every 30 seconds.

Old ass streaming stick came to the rescue.

The multi-view on #ESPN’s AppleTV app works really nicely for bouncing back and forth between two playoff games at once. Hope the native tvOS native QUADBOX (hat tip @upgrade) really does implement this across apps someday.

Do we like the score bug for #NHL on #ESPN? I can’t decide
