Wouldn't it be more fair, meritocratic, and plainly better #OpenScience practice, to make those nominations random, say across an international pool of professors in the field?

There seems to be an unwritten rule for #EarlyCareerResearchers regarding deferential treatment to professors, but I do not think this is good thing for neither science or academia.

I have been organising an project related event for some months and as this has been my first experience with university bureaucracy and all the budget management related to research projects..
