. . why not write in #fedwiki and use Mastodon to publish links to pages written? Create a plugin even?

What wiki does NOT do, very deliberately, is PUSH to anybody's feed. You can read somebody's 'feed' (recent changes in any wiki known to you or forked by you). And wiki's tacit 'awareness engine' can show what folks in your (chosen) neighborhood have made.

This is resonant with undiscoverability in #earthstar

This beautiful, but rather alien-looking thing is called an Earthstar. Earthstars are a type of fungi related to puffballs which appear amongst the leaf-litter in late Autumn. I photographed this one alongside the River Kelvin in Glasgow last week. To give you an idea of its size, it would easily cover the palm of my hand.

@gwil Thanks for introducing me to #Earthstar! I hadn't known of it before. It looks like it has some things in common with #Syncthing, but perhaps more of an emphasis on collaborative editing and less on pure storage?

Another cool one is Earthstar : https://earthstar-project.org

This one is very early but have some working prototypes apps of various kind: a message board forum, a blog, etc. This project aims more at syncing files automatically, like Google Drive or Dropbox, but without a server. You own your data, no middle men, no tracking. I tried it: it works fine across the Internet but had problems to sync between computers on the same network. Hopefully things will improve soon!

@gwil Welcome, gwil! Glad to see you here. It looks like your interests intersect mine quite a bit; I've been interested in #NNCP and #Syncthing as decentralized, offline-first or offline-capable systems, and recently wrote #Filespooler in that space.

I hadn't heard of #Earthstar. After reading the website, it sounds kind of like Syncthing, but with a more-public way of joining a share? (Sharing a link without having the approve the request) I'd be interested in other comparisons.
