No effective safety equipment on board and poor decisions by the #captain exacerbated the #tragedy. It led to the decline of the #littlegermany neighborhood in #nyc and remains the worst #maritime disaster in #newyorkcity #history. When I took this #photo in 2008 I had no idea that the #red hat might set people off in the future. Tell you what. Just ignore the red hat.
