La gran demanda de entradas señalaba el éxito de la gira de #EddieCochran por Gran Bretaña. Tras su última presentación en Bristol la ansiada vuelta a casa era cuestión de horas (el tiempo de las islas le jugaba una mala pasada como habitante de California). Un Ford Consul los llevaría a Londres junto a Gene Vincent y el resto del grupo para tomarse el avión que los trasladaría finalmente a EEUU. La enorme velocidad y la imprudencia del conductor (habría tomado una calle en contramano) lo obligaron a frenar de golpe perdiendo el control del vehículo que se estrelló contra un poste de luz despidiendo a Eddie sobre la acera. Fue trasladado de urgencia al Hospital St Martin's en Bath pero allí nada pudieron hacer. Como resultado del traumatismo cerebral que había sufrido fallecería el 17 de abril de 1961, el joven contaba solo 21 años.
